BBWAA do not elect any player to HOF

While I agree it is asinine, I completely understand reserving something special for the truly greats of the game.

If they could do a star system and eliminate 1st ballot nonsense, it would be great. But to say Biggio belongs in the same class as Ruth or Mays is not right.

There are only about 10 players in history that belong with Ruth and Mays. No one is saying that Biggio is in that class.

We think that Biggio belongs with .285 hitter Yount, .262 hitter ozzie smith, and strike out king Reggie Jackson .262. They were all first ballot. Biggio is better than all three of them IMO. Puckett is another first ballot player that Biggio is better than.

I think the fact nobody got in, says more about the obvious snubs to the PED suspects, than to the others.

So no one should ever be a 1st HOF because they can't match up with Ruth and Mays?

No but it should be reserved for the very best. Did you ever consider Biggio as the best player in the league? I never put Biggio in that conversation. He never finished higher than 4th in the MVP vote.

I get it but there are already guys in that aren't as good that some of these current voters voted in..like freakin' Ozzie "the flipper" Smith.

I guess if Miguel keeps at it, he won't be a 1st ballot either. Jeter, nope. Who else won't make it..

If you want Trammell and Morris in then you better not hold your breath. These names are going to pile up and the Tiger boys aren't going to see the HOF for a long time. I've been saying that Trammell and Whitaker both belong in, but it isn't going to be easy to make a case for them with all of these superstars getting snubbed.

Jeter will. He is a Yankee. If he does a flip then he might be the first player to get 100% of the vote.

If I had to pick guys from todays game to be first ballot guys it would be Pujols, Cabrera, Verlander, Halladay, Kemp, Kershaw, Posey, Cano and I am sure I missed some guys. This assumes these guys keep it up and stay healthy. But if you are not in the conversation as best in the game then you are not a first ballot guy.

How about Jeter. He has never been a MVP. He hasn't even been the best offensive SS throughout his career (Tulo, HanRam, Arod, Nomar). He has never won a batting, home run or RBI title, but I would put him in on the first ballot without a doubt. How about you?

No. I don't elevate guys because they play in NY. If Jeter was in Houston, he would be considered a Biggio clone. While I thinks he belongs in the HOF, not as a first ballot. He,like Biggio, played consistently for a long time, which is HOF worthy, but never was considered as one of the best in the game.

Jeter is going to be first ballot.

So will Pujols probably, I don't know about anyone else.

Miggy and Pujols both played in the "steroid era". If these writers are going to be consistent then Miggy and Pujols have to be snubbed like the rest. Players are guilty until proven guilty these days.

I think that Ichiro, Greg Maddox, Thome, Griffey, and Thomas should go first ballot. Maybe Ichiro has to wait, but I can see him going for being the first Japanese player in. I don't think that any of these guys are tainted, but who knows what these writers think.

If Miggy continues to put up similar numbers for the rest of his prime he will be a 1st ballot guy.

It depends on how some people handle the alcohol problems he had, and the idea that in 2009, he was drunk or hung over during the Chicago series, the loss of which which forced game 163.

I don't think first ballot is always about stats as it is about an ambassador of the game.

Wow, how does Biggio not get in. 3000 hits isn't a magic number anymore? Is he tainted? What am I missing?

Career .281 BAVG

Career .275 BAVG Away (.288 Home)

Career .274 BAVG Grass (.293 Art. Turf)

Biggio was a very good player. Health, home park and longevity does wonders for stats. Just ask Cal Ripken.

He's probably going to get 3500 hits. That's huge, with a big average. NY or not that's 1st ballot worthy.
