Bring on the White Sox!!

Except anytime he puts in Raburn it is a mistake as of right now... You still can add all the games he mismanaged to his ledger earlier in the season. Tigers are 1.5 games up because they are on a very nice 14-4 stretch but they should be up over 5 to 7 games right now.. Leaving Dotel in at Seattle when the whole board is screaming to yank him... Bringing in a rookie Ortega in Cincinnati in game 1 of that series when the Tigers had just reclaimed the lead.. Using your top Relief pitchers when you are up 4+ runs just to name 2..... Jim is a slightly above average manager who in my opinion should have us farther head right now.. How many at bats has Raburn cost our better hitters.... Maybe you are all right that managers don't effect much but line-ups they do....I want Raburn to hit but he is clearly lost right now, and does not deserve to be taking at bats away from other players.. Hopefully we will keep scoring a lot of runs..

Yep.

Too many people try to blame a manager for what players do. Leyland has not done a single thing differently, just more guys are hitting, and the pitching has been better.

I get all that and it's great but explain to me the "Raburn in the 2-hole" strategy...please. Him playing is atrocious enough, but the 2-hole?? For fuck sakes, man...c'mon. It's lazy and fn ridiculous (on Leylands part). Way beyond embarrassing now. Raburn is getting the Inge treatment now...getting booed every single time he steps on the field..time to go.

Raburn playing over Berry is a joke.

Against Right-handers, yes.

Against Left-handers, maybe not Raburn, but I'd rather see a righty over Berry.

Berry is not the god people think he is, he's a decent player, but I bet most people would be shocked at his July numbers: .222/.300/.296/.596 [numbers don't include Sundays 1-4 game] so it's not like it's a sin to play someone over him for one damn game against a tough lefthander.

And at some point you have to play Raburn to see if he'll hit [isn't looking good], nothing wrong with starting him against Sale, yes, over Berry.

But I would have batted him 8th.

Yes Berry has come down to earth a tad this month verses LHP... But his energy and defense alone are way above Raburn.. I wanted Raburn to be his second half self.. I really feel bad for him with his grandfather dying.. Maybe a change of scenery is what he need.. Heck maybe he will hit a homer soon...

That's not vs. LHP Bob, that's vs. everyone.

And I'm not saying Raburn should play over Berry, I'm saying it's dumb to call it dumb when it happens once. Berry is far from irreplaceable.

Berry makes things happen or haven't you noticed his big hits, defense and more big hits. Its not whether he hits .270 or not, its his timely hits. And yeah he should be playing against Raburn, against RHP and LHP.

Just to re-emphasize, Berry has been huge.

Look at the stats and recent gamelogs. Berry has had some big hits, nobody is denying that, But you're blinded if you think he's anymore then a fill-in player.

He's made some big plays on defense, but he's also made some boners too. He's not in Ajax's league when it comes to defense.

Like I said, he's hitting .224 for July, but yeah, go ahead and call him awesome because of a big hit here and there, people used to say that about Inge. Nothing wrong with sitting him against LHP.

Who said he awesome? You always seem to see something that isn't there. All I said was he's been huge since he was brought up. Better than any of us expected. He gets big hits, plays good defense I'm not sure why you can't see he's making things happen.

Oh I know, "Ryan Raburn will have a great 2nd half" -- MI-Thumb.

Hey THUMB, guess who is hitting .146 is July, largely against LHP? Ryan Fuckin' Raburn.

And .205 OBP and .244 slugging. Yeah, he should be starting vs LHP.

At least Raburn has a nice .111 with RISP 2-outs this season and .111 in tie games this season.

Talk about seeing something that isn't there Mitch.

Raburn is probably done. But Berry is not a real solution, you just don't know enough to understand this. He had a 2-run HR, and I'm glad, but didn't have a single other hit vs. Chicago and K'd 3 times.

You posted in the a game thread the other day how you were getting sick of Avila, well in July he and Avila have almost the same average, 1 HR each, and Avila's .OBP is much better.

Fact is Berry had a hot May, a solid June, and has started to cool off really fast. Take off your fan goggles.

No kidding?

Did I say Raburn was hitting well?

I said starting him over Berry vs. LHP for ONE FUCKING GAME was not a big deal.

You are one dumb Michigander. You say he's crap, not worth the time etc but with no obvious solutions to who would you want in his place. Raburn, Kelly, Worth etc?

Its not that he has cooled off all I said was he has been a spark plug, a nice addition and you can't see this other than "he's not a real solution". Then who is? You want DY back in left, Raburn batting 2? Give the kid credit for doing some nice things while here.

Where did I say he's crap Mitch? Get your wife or whoever you have read stuff to you to re-do it.

And he's not a real solution. Corner OF needs to be a production spot, and Berry is not really producing right now, the defense is good, the stolen bases are nice [when he gets on], but Quintin Berry is not the stud he get's made out to be. If Dirks comes back and plays/hits like he did before the injury, then I replace Berry with him in a heartbeat.

I'm not taking any credit away from Berry, I'm just not giving him anymore then he deserves.

Once did I ever say he was a future starter or he was the final solution. Or calling him a stud, lol. But he has done some nice things and I'm glad he was brought up. And I like watching him play.

I do too kind of.

I wish he was getting on base more though, and striking out less. If we get a few guys hot [like Boesch and Peralta] Berry not hitting much won't bother me as much.

And the whole point of this thing was, you can sit a .222 LH-hitter for one game in favor of a right handed bat without it being a joke.

All this was in response to someone crying that Leyland sat Berry for 1 game and used Raburn. It wasn't the end of the world, because Berry wasn't doing much anyways.
