@CoachJim4UM just came on @The_MZone on WTKA and invited @realchriswebber to be an honorary captain for a game next year, and Webber accepted. He will be back on Michigan's campus next football season

Good!! Next lets have the entire Fab 5 at a basketball game. Enough time has passed and lets all move on.

No doubt. 80% of the Fab Five didn't get in trouble. Webber screwed up royally with Martin, but he was a teenager when he did. Time to move on.

I don’t like it.

He was found in contempt of Congress for his Congressional testimony regarding the lies he told Congress about what happened at Michigan.

Character and integrity matters.

Character is what you do when you don’t think anybody’s looking.

He’s made a lot of money; that’s enough.

There is no such thing as enough time to have passed in this situation.

Chris Weber should never, ever be officially welcomed back by the University to the campus of the University of Michigan in any capacity whatsoever.

I think this may be sarcasm? I hope.

Sorry no.

It’s absolutely how I think and how I feel.

I was a Sacto fan every NBA West series finals against the Lakers because of C Webb.

That’s a lot of years ago.

The truth is the truth.

Weber lied at Michigan.

Weber cheated at Michigan.

So, I'm not up on the rumors and details to the same degree as I am with post-Carr football stuff. Is the general thought that he dodged even worse repercussions with the IRS by not cooperating? I've seen at least one anonymous Michigan poster suggest he could have faced jail time considering the amounts.

While admitting I didn't read all the testimony here, and am going on perception a bit:

I can respect Jalen Rose, who didn't apologize but was like "You're a poor black kid in Detroit, of course you're going to take handouts, and anyone who lectures us over morality of that can fuck off."

Webber has acted like a pampered superstar all along. Like he shouldn't have to deign to explain himself.

Maybe he has a legit beef to some extent, but he can talk about it. We want to know.

honorary captain? I would think for someone to be given the "honor" to be a captain they would have done something positive for the university. IMO, he has done nothing to deserve such an honor.

Except Webber probably fit that description least of all of them. Not wealthy, but he went to Detroit Country Day and was the only one recruited by Duke, even though Duke always acted like Michigan got what we deserved recruiting the wrong kinds of people. (I say "Duke", because I have to google to spell the coach's name.)

I wasn't sure about that, so I didn't include it, but yeah, my understanding was his family didn't need the money; he didn't really have an excuse... he was just - not sure what you want to call it... greedy? Greedier than is socially acceptable?

Greed, or better, ambition, and bad character; i.e. breaking the rules, are not synonymous.

If you have great basketball talent and the NBA is calling? Go to the NBA.

Are you a great actor with a great voice? Go be James Earl Jones.

Are you brilliant in new technology and Steve Jobs tells you to leave Michigan and go write code full time? Go be Bobby Kotich.

Are you a great baseball talent and the Yankees are calling? Skip Michigan, go to New York and be Derek Jeter.

Are you "it," whatever it is, and Christopher Flynn recommends that you leave your dance major at Michigan and to go New York? Great, go be Madonna.

Be as ambitious as you want, go as far as you want and make as much money as you can.

But don't break the rules while you're at Michigan.

Here's the deal. Jalen Rose admitted that he took the $50 handshakes...just like everyone else did

Chris Webber is a piece of shit. He's never admitted to taking any money, even though we all know he did. He whined about not being able to afford a hamburger, even though we all know he was taking thousands. They say $280,000, but it really was probably more AND he didn't need to. His family had money, but he wanted more and didn't want to wait until he got to the NBA. Then he still to this day tries to act like he did nothing wrong, that he didn't take the money. He has never admitted any guilt whatsoever. I completely disagree that he has "done his time." I'm like Tinsel in this, you want to do your time? Admit that you were wrong...that is the very least.

The kids of today do FAR worse than he ever did. Who cares anymore? I surely dont. I would have taken money from the dude, too. The only reason we even know about this is because Ed Martin was a fucking thief and the FBI was involved. What happened with Webber was spill over. Michigan should have just stonewalled the NCAA like everyone else does, but they pussed out. Just like with Stretch Gate.

you think the kids of today are getting far more than $280K?

The Ed Martin story is THIRTY YEARS OLD NOW. Players like Terry Mills were also part of it, pre-dating the FabFive. Maybe Webber was wrong in how he responded to the scandal, but if this gesture by Harbaugh helps bring closure and a better ‘apology,’ wouldn’t that be a good thing? Would that be acceptable or is the resentment permanent?

My opinion is he was part of a scandal that disgraced the university. Why give him an honor like being an honorary captain? It makes no sense to me.

I don't have a problem with what Webber did anymore. I have a problem that he won't even admit that he did it. Don't be a liar. Say you took money and move on.
