C-Webb To Be Honorary Captain

M fans tend to be self-loathing at times.

No doubt if osu brought T Pryor back as an honorary captain not a single bucknut would object.

The current Shoe scandal featuring Arizona, MSU and others blows away the Ed Martin scandal by many many miles.

And let me add to my post ....

Ed Martin was the guy in the hood who ran the numbers game and worked the system. He gave kids with NOTHING a pair of shoes, some pocket cash and other AAU-related enticements. Was he an "upstanding guy" ...? Not really. But was he malicious or corrupted or fixing games...? No. Not at all.

By the time the Fab5 was what it was - his largest and most obvious opportunity ever - the money was bigger but in the end it was basically a guy who steered kids to Michigan basketball. Clearly Fisher was aware, as would have been Frieder (and dare I say Bo?) before him and there is no way the coaches and admin wouldn't have seen signs ..

But the SEC football BagMen make Ed Martin look like a rube. They make him out to be some low level Ghetto Uncle who convinced kids by using his means, to go to Michigan. What's happening TODAY at SEC football programs blows away anything Ed Martin did.

And then there's Northwestern University - the Academic and Integrity of the BigTen with a POINT SHAVING SCANDAL involving top HS recruits from hotbeds like Indiana who FIXED GAMES FOR MOBSTERS and were found guilty.

Why doesn't anyone ever talk about Northwestern ....or Illinois and really the only reason Chicago All-Star Juwan Howard came to Ann Arbor instead of Urbana-Champaign, instead of Ed Martin.

To me, its time to get over shit. I understand the resentment and opinion, but let's fucking forgive Chris Webber and move on as a family.

/Rant

GO BLUE!!

What's to forgive...according to C Webb? Ask him and he says he never did anything wrong.

I don't tend to forgive people things, unless they admit what they did. Hell! He doesn't even have to apologize, just acknowledge that he did it and that he was part of what sent Michigan into a downward spiral for 10+ years. Thankfully, MIchigan has come out of it, but it was definitely in now way thanks to him.

The timeout. No question. We could laugh about the timeout now if there weren't an 800 lb elephant in the room.

People ripping on Webber about the time-out are just stupid. Michigan didn't lose that game, because of that time-out. Michigan was already losing. Now if Michigan had a 2 point lead, he called time-out, then Michigan ended up losing, because of it, then some people might have a point, but the time-out just basically ended the chance at a comeback. Michigan might've just rushed down the court and missed a shot...same result.

so Michigan should be more like OSU and Michigan fans should be more like OSU fans?

My Open Letter to C-Webb published in the Michigan Daily in Dec 2002 -

An open letter to Webber from a disgruntled University alum

To the Daily:

As an incoming freshman along with yourself and the other members of the "Fab Five" I was given the great pleasure and privilege to watch you play for the two years you spent at Michigan. I was also a freshman at the time you all lived in South Quad and although you would never remember, actually held a few conversations with you in the lounge and lobbies.

Growing up in Michigan during the time you played high school basketball means that I have been following your "career" since you (and I) were high school sophomores. I always appreciated the way in which you handled yourself and the pressure inherent with your position both before and during the time at Michigan.

Now, in light of the "Ed Martin Scandal" and the "forfeiture" of all the games involving yourself at the University, I have one simple request ...

Can you use some of that loot the Kings and Ed Martin paid you to refund the hard-earned money I doled out as a freshman and sophomore to attend the games that now never took place?

Sincerely,

Tyler *****
