Calvin Has Officially Retired

I don't even think he's retiring to be honest.

Right now, it was a rough season. He's been banged up. Lot's of uncertainty in the air. It would make any guy think about it.

But pretty soon they start thinking about the money, and one more season, and how good they feel after a few weeks of rest.

I could be wrong. I just don't think he's going out just yet.

I think that very likely. I think he's a little frustrated with another season without making the playoffs..... he's aching and tired and there's ANOTHER possible regime coming in soon.

I think he plays for one.....MAYBE even two more years. Again, if its in Detroit it will have to be at a reduced rate. $24M is a LOT of money for a WR......even if it is Megatron. Maybe a 2 year guaranteed deal at $14M/year (all salary.....all guaranteed...so if he calls it quits after one year no cap hit) would help everyone out.

if he is thinking about the money he would be leaving on the table, why would he re-structure to take less?

I don't think so either. I think it's about the toll the NFL is taking on his body.

My Dad and i were talking at dinner Friday night and he told me that he read an article that over 70% of NFLers contemplate retirement at the end of the season. I personally think he's coming back for one more year.

70% don't make statements to the media about it.

Yeah. Crazy story too! He died like 5 years ago and it was the anniversary of his death. I always go to his grave site with a bucket of KFC and peanut butter sandwiches smothered in Franks Red Hot. I tell him how much i miss him. And he appears before me like he never left my side. We converse, its short but sweet. Kinda cool eh?

You must have brainstormed on this one too because you dug deep....lol. Because you never know, right? Do I have a dad? Do i know what a dad is? Am i a dad? How can a guy like me have a dad? Thats preposterous, right?!?! Whats a dad? Deep, brother.....like digging a hole to motherfucking China deep. I salute you!!!!

Yeah.. Sorry about your father.. It sucked when my dad died but I do all the graves in the family every year. He may not have gotten me into hunting like him but my sports craziness started by watching Lions games and when I was little we would pick the winners of each game and keep track. Dad's are something and we were lucky to have them.

My Dad isn't dead, bro lol. I was messing with jdeb there because he decided to throw a jab at me about my dad. I thought my post reeked of sarcasm....sorry.

Sorry about your pops though.....I know i'll be a wreck when its time for my parents to go.

You've never met mine.

Sorry J..... I should be more attentive to the thread . I whiffed badly on this conversation..
Yeah i was pretty lucky on the parent front. LOL..

When I come home late on Wednesday nights after working my part time gig and Wednesday night cigar night, I go to the threads that have had new postings.
Scrolling down for today/tonights post I was taken aback by what Tony said and felt bad until reading more posts.

Tony, I hope you have your parents for many more years...decades man, and I wish the same for everyone else who has their moms and dads.
I will be having a 25 year memorial mass for my dad the end of next month, and with it still so fresh in my mind, I think of my old mom all the time.

This is a good place to put this, never be on the outs with your parents. They aren't or weren't perfect. Nobody is....there is no book for how to be a parent, they learn on the fly, and for all the good things they did or taught you, there will always be sometimes the made a mistake. If any of you are on the outs for something, get closure, make up, tell them you love them, before you can't, except at the cemetary.
I'm an old guy, and am not ashamed to say, the tears will come for awhile before I can move on from not being able to talk with my recently deceased mom, and my dad who forgot more jokes than I know and who was a mixture of Archie Bunker, Moe Howard, and Ward Cleaver.

My dad was abusive into my teens. I'm very grateful that we have a 'normal' relationship now, I know many don't get a chance at that especially after abuse.
