I'm a little confused here....

Calvin gets hurt, Calvin gets used as a "decoy" for a couple games, Calvin supposedly gets frusturated about being a decoy and hints that he may need rest, Calvin re-tweaks his injury against Buffalo, Caldwell comes out and says that "they are strongly considering sitting CJ" this week against Minnesota. Ok, I get that!!

Now, I just see Calvin on the NFLN and he tells the analysts that "he hopes/wants to play this week" and that "you need to fight through pain and play". So what is it?! Why isn't he getting the ball?? His injury has to be serious, right? He's caught 3 balls in 2 games for piss poor yards. Is Lombardi scared to get him the ball? Stafford isn't even looking for him anyways when he was out there lol.

Makes no sense to me. Do the math and it seems logical to sit him. He's getting no looks, nothing. This decoy crap is frusturating him ...I think? He wants to play...I love the warrior in him, but is he hurting the team and himself more by being out there? Confusing.

They need to sort this shit out and make a decision. And IF you play him, get him the fucking ball!! Decoy my ass.

If he's not even getting doubled, he shouldn't play.

Sit him. If we can't beat the Vikings without him we have some real issues. Let him get healthy for the tougher part of our schedule.

This. We'll need a healthy Calvin down the stretch and if we can't beat a bad Vikings team without him, we don't deserve to be in the playoffs.

This pretty much sums it up. By definition if this isn't happening, he isn't a decoy at all. Ogletree can draw single coverage ffs. But if the guy can't run routes and get open, you've effectively shut down half the field on offense.

I wonder if it was a bullshit report and he wanted to make it clear he wasn't being a diva about it. Didn't strike me as a Calvin type thing to happen.

Weird thing is when Calvin first injured the ankle he said it was no big deal, and that he wasn't worried about it. 3 weeks and about 3 catches later, it's clear he was downplaying it's significance. If he can't play his normal role in the offense it's pointless for him to be out there. Everybody knows he's hurt, we're not fooling anybody. Get him back to 100%, and hope whoever replaces him can play well. Imo that should be the only option, and he has a bigger chance of suffering a more serious injury due to his inability to move around out there. Bench him

I don't remember the Buffalo game but against the Jets he was being doubled..so imo, he was fine decoy. Though I rather have him involved and catching passes..

I'd sit him for a week, maybe two. I wouldn't doubt if his statement is more of a "I might play, so you better gameplan for me" type of thing than anything else. Teams are ridiculous with stuff like that, so you never seem to know a guy's status until minutes ahead of kickoff.

For sure sit him this week.. A high ankle sprain isn't going to get better by playing through it. Give him the additional rest this week. I'd rather see him on the field for the Saints game.

he shouldn't be playing. he shouldn't have played 2 weeks ago and theres a possibility he would have been back already. Instead we have a world class wr that caught 3 passes and reinjured his ankle....bad job Caldwell.

Still more production than our #10 pick

Funny, here's Lombardi making excuses for not being able to adjust after losing CJ or Bush. I do not think Lombardi has what it takes to be an OC. Game planing around an already injured player=brilliant. How bout you game plan around CJ not playing at all to begin with, so when he's gotta come out it doesn't shoot a hole in your plan.

The odd thing about that is in New Orleans, they were known for spreading the ball around. I thought that was one of the bigger perks of him coming here.

Need a qb with the ability to read more than 1 or 2 targets into a progression for that....

Need an O-LINE that will allow him time to GET through his progressions. Pass protection has been garbage, we all can see that.

Without Calvin, and if Bush is good to go, need to get some screen plays in and quick passes so these supposedly speedy receivers like Fuller and Broyles can have some space to run. At least until Calvin is back and the o-line gets their crap together.

Who is the broyles you're referring to

Cml, the link either in this thread or another showed that he has had the exact same amount of time from snap to sack. He's holding onto the ball longer. Ie, he lost his main guy and has no clue what to do.

You can't forget that Lombardi had Drew Brees in NO, not Matt Stafford. Huge Difference.
