Castellanos to Start in Right Field for Erie Tonight.

i think itd be great for rotation if you bring him up. He plays 3rd on some nights and allows for Prince or Cabrera to be dh. OF other nights. Wed be able to rotate him in plenty. Ideally id do it next year if were keeping him. If we plan on trading him id do it sooner rather than later. We need to sell high with players that were thinking about moving. Recent example is Turner has lost some value. Castellanos' value is about as high as its gonna get....if we dont see a future for him here he should be dealt for someone that can contribute now.

High value, don't bring him up. If he hits poorly, he loses value. Assuming that DD is willing to trade him keep him in the minors longer, IMO.

Thumb, you know how many players never play in AAA? In fact AA is better than AAA, normally AAA is just ml fodder, guys that go back and forth in emergency or studs like Turner who jumped to the ML and when sent back down went to AAA.

Turner came up from Erie, in case you didn't know. Now of course this isn't all the time but great players usually skip AAA.

JV and Miggy never played above AA.

Tuner is AAA now, and was half a season last year.

And let's not compare Castellanos to Miguel Cabrera, seriously Mitch, be real here. I disagree with your assessment of AAA also, most guys go through AAA before hitting the big clubs, sure a select few don't, but most do.

A-rod was one of the biggest names coming up, he spent time in AAA, Bryce Harper, played AAA, Trout- AAA, Trumbo - AAA, Strasburg - AAA, far from ML fodder, and Castellanos is nice, but I don't know he's in the class of Bryce Harper.

I'm not the only one who feels he's nowhere near ready, check out the poll in that link too.

His value has not peaked yet.

When he develops more power and learns to take more walks, plus learns a new defense position, his value could double by 2013.

You're missing the point though, great players if Nick becomes great don't usually AAA it.

Btw, Turner played in AAA after Detroit brought him up. I stated that in my post, but he came up from AA.

Many many many players come up from AA. No one needs to play in AAA to prove their worth. It isn't a better league.

And I don't think he's ready either but that wasn't the point I was trying to make.

If Castellanos is up this year, hopefully it won't be before Sept. callups. Remember, Leyland doesn't like bringing up more than 4 or 5, maybe 6 tops for the stretch run. Doesn't like a crowded dugout.
I expect the Tigers will send Nick to the Arizona Fall League....Give him some more exposure to the corner outfield positions. At this point in time with the start in RF and previously taking flys in LF, it isn't that clear yet which they see him at for the possible, and likely switch.
Next ST see how he does, to figure where to send him to start 2013, that is AA or AAA. Hopefully a bit more selectivity to improve on the walk rate, and cut down a little on the k's.

thats what ppl thought about turner too. MVP of the futures game and having the year hes having....cant get much higher without being called up and putting those numbers up in the big leagues imo.

He hasn't learned it yet.

The point is if you move him off the position he'll never learn it well as mjsb pointed out and that he'll be unlikely to try and learn it at a serviceable level at the major league level rather than in the minors. The guy is only 19, he's a ways away from the bigs, the two years on his contract should be fine with regards to when he's called up.

He turned 20 4 months ago.
