Chris Houston out?

scheffler was only used consistenly in a 2 TE scheme once we lost all our WRs. The way youre talking youre acting like weve always been a 2 TE set. Scheff was using very sparingly early in the year when we had our full WR roster. A pass catching TE fits better in any situation where the TE goes out on a route lol....which is a WHOLE lot of the time in our offense. He doesnt chip often....he doesnt stay in and block often. He runs 6 yards and turns around.

And catches a ton of balls. I don't know why you have a problem with Pettigrew being a nice 9 yard gainer on average, for many first downs. It's how the Cowboys use Witten.

The Lions use Scheffler a good amount, not all the time, 2 TE isn't our base but it was used. They used Reiff more which is why that went away some from two tight end but Linehan loves it. But with Reiff becoming a starter and either Gosder/Backus gone, look for more two tight end again.

Is it because he's not good at it or the coaches don't use him there. Just curious because I'm not sure..

its because of raoila and peterman. We tried to put a band aid on a fucking severed leg. It didnt work. Even gosder to some extent. 1st round RTs should be maulers in the run game.....gosder doesnt dominate by any means in the run game. I think it was 10' where the right side of the line had a ypc at less than 1 yard for the entire year....thats pathedic and we havent changed any of those guys.

Backus was the worst run blocker, then Raiola, then Gosder. Peterman was inconsistent yet solid for the most part but bad at pass blocking.

Reiff for Gosder or Backus should upgrade tackle run blocking, Backus could have a better year or the Reiff/Gosder combo would be the best run blocking combo if Backus is cut or retires and hopefully not a drop off in pass pro from Backus.

Right Guard and Center need an upgrade. Luckily we can cut their big contracts and get some cap space. Bill Nagy, Rodney Austin, the draft Round 3 or later and even a free agent could get the job done over Raiola/Peterman

Fuckin' Crayola. We should have known when the Organization gave him props when they first got here.

Your on crack if you think those te's can block like pett. There are times we line him up 1on 1 against peppers and mathews. Schef is our seam te and we traded trash for him. I would have liked a seam type te later in the draft last year, maybe we will get one this year cause Schef disappears at times and has concussion problems.

But tony....thats part of the problem. We pick him in the first, hes not a pass catching te, and we proceed to pass the ball 10 million times a year. Just like we need a pass catching speed back yet we play leshoure and bell. Or want big cbs the year after drafting bentley. The plan is....there is no plan. And if there was a plan....we'll be sure to change it next year!

And you'll ALWAYS continue bitching ;) lol

NO matter what...

oh i get it....it should be a WIN NOW draft every year. Weve taken 20 years to rebuild and in most everyones opinion except yours, LKPs and Tonys....were nowhere close. Theres a bottom line to all of this that you guys fail to see. Were 4-12. We need to resign, sign or draft approximately 12 new starters lol. The only people on this team worth a shit are staff, cj, suh, fairley, reiff and Houston. All of them were 1st round locks except Houston who ive always given mayhew credit for getting.....however, now hes a free agent and might not even be back with the team lol. You can post all the woulda shoulda coulda crap you want to....it doesnt change anything i just wrote.

edit....ill throw tulloch in there. missed him. gratz MM....you have 7 decent players on this team.

Wtf did i do?! lol.

I never said anything about being close. You complain about fn everything the Lions do...EVERYTHING. No matter what they do, what they say or who they draft or sign, fn re-sign, it's a complete failure to you.
I understand your pain and sympathize a bit, but you point your stubby little fingers at the wrong guy most of the time. That guy is Mayhew. He's done a pretty good job with this team since Millen left. He's made some trades that are very nice for this football team and has acquired starters actually.
This team has been hit with injuries that are killing this team. There's no fn crystal ball with shit like that. That's not Mayhew's fault at all.

Close?? Give me a fn break. lol

most of his problem is the lions past..he keeps bringing up 10-20 years of futility..but mayhew's only been here for 4..idk why even bring up the past because its clearly not the same people..

It's been 4 years of futility too. Drafting like an idiot, no fa signings, no cap space, overpaying for crap and putting a bunch of crap on the field. Kinda sounds like the same people to me.

Well when you have no talent on the team when you take over of course the turn around will take time. They have had terrible contracts that they have had to work on due to to many high draft picks. They had zero talent on a roster that couldnt have beaten a college team. You cant just get rid of everyone and start over its not how this game works. We now have some good pieces to build around. A star at QB, a star wr, a stud te, two stud DTs and decent dline depth, a stud safety all be it with injury history, and a solid MLB who understands the scheme. We definitely have holes to fill but it takes time and this upcoming season will be interesting due to FA and limited CAP. But mayhew has worked hard and I think he has done a decent job.

Mayhew drafts very well. Stafford, Pettigrew, Delmas, SLH, Suh, Best, Fairley, Leshoure, Reiff and Broyles prove that. Plus all the good trades to get Corey Williams, Sims, Chris Houston in 2010, Scheffler, Shaun Hill and Lawrence Jackson. Way more good use of draft picks than bad especially with the important picks.

Tulloch, Durant, Houston in 2011, Burleson and KVB in 2010/2011 were good free agent signings.

Cap they have work to do but will cut the non performing players of 2012. Peterman and KVB, extend Stafford, pay cuts for Raiola and Burleson and were are in good shape to get the priorities back.

Old CBA and injuries are not Mayhews fault.

This is an endless battle with neither side going to be convinced of any arguments contrary to their opinion.

Looking forward to FAs and draft, let's see what they will be putting on the field next year. It will either be another .500 or less team that misses the playoffs again, backing the arguments of one side, or they will be a playoff level team (whether in or not, they will be in the mix) thereby validating the other side.

And no, being 8-8 is not playoff caliber as it will likely take 9+ wins to make playoffps, not to mention winning their division. 8-8 is no better than previous years as evidenced by LKPs breakdown by half seasons, so that would not be an improvement, only status quo. And no one should be happy with status quo.

Agreed. Let's look forward to a highly talented Lions team in 2013. I really hope you guys hope I'm right or it will be a miserable year for all Lions fans. Lots of work to do. Combine, free agency and the draft coming up. It's a do or die year in 2013.

Of course we all hope your right. I plunk down my money every year to watch them play and now drive three hours to every home game. I do it because I have been hoping your right for the better part of lifetime. Realistically I think otherwise, but obviously we wouldn't be fans if we didn't want the team to win.

we need to beat the teams in our own division before we can even think about playoffs. 0-6 and the only position we have an advantage over any of those teams is DT. We lack quality starters, quality depth and it leads to a lack of wins. We have about 5 people on our team that are worth a darn. 5....

If that were true.....then how did they win 10 games two years ago....with basically the exact same roster (give or take a few guys)?

You're kidding, right? Suddenly Ponder is better than Stafford..
