CJ in FA

anyways can't wait to see these negotiations when CJ has them by the balls...you wanna keep him for the next 3 years you are looking at 77 million guaranteed using the tag for 2 years.

Calvin has ALL the leverage here......

Calvin's cap number is 22 million this year. If they let him play a full season on that number the Lions are idiots. Of course it will probably be 16 million per year average on a long term deal still which is more than Fitz. His franchise number would only be 22 million in 2013 because performance bonuses aren't included in the franchise calculation. Sign that man long term and make him the highest paid player. The only leverage is Calvin gets the guranteed right away without risk of injury. He might not get to those franchsie numbers if he gets hurt badly.

his franchise # is 26.4 million in 2013.

Seifert got it wrong. Seifert included the performance bonus counted in the 22 million for this year. That won't be counted in his franchise cap number. Page 45 of the CBA. It doesn't matter, if he has a 22 million cap number in 2012 and no longer term deal, the Lions front office are idiots.

Fitz got close to 50 million on a 7 year deal. Yeah probably around 55 million guranteed. With Suh and Staffords contract that really hurts. Suh can restructure this year but next year is going to be a problem with Delmas,Durant,Chris Houston,Gosder,Levy,Sammie Lee Hill all free agents. They have to be smart with Avril and Tulloch. I think one of them walks for sure probably Avril.

Actually I'd rather get rid of KVBs contract and get Avril long term if a DE is leaving.

Corey Williams should be the odd man out....he is set to make 5 million this year and next,

cutting him his NO cap hit , because we traded for him and the Browns took that hit.

Very true I forgot about Corey. With Hill and Fairley and Suh, I'd rather keep Avril over Corey Williams though he will be missed some. Hill never beat him out for a reason. Time for Fairley to step up but that makes me nervous considering his rookie year. Most rookie DT years are like that but I wish Fairley could have shown more.

Calvin Johnson - WR - Lions

Lions GM Martin Mayhew anticipates that Calvin Johnson's cap number will be roughly $20 million in 2012.
Johnson's base salary is scheduled to be $14 million, and he may have hit escalator clauses that would send it even higher. Mayhew said the Lions will try to sign Megatron to a new contract, which would lessen his cap cost and also get him locked up long term. Johnson is entering a contract year.

I think its all but certain he goes. We need the money badly.

With Calvin's bonus, we're at around $8-$10 mil in free space at the moment IIRC (anyone know exactly?). Re-upping Calvin and cutting Williams could maybe get us to $25 mil. But then we have to re-sign Tulloch, Backus, Hill, and Hanson, find a starting CB, figure out what to do with Avril, sign draft picks, and fill out the rest of the roster. $25 mil isn't much. Mayhew will be shopping for bargains again like last year.

Kind of hard to show a whole lot when you are nursing a foot injury pretty much all year. It was bothering him in many of the games he did get to play as well as destroy the amount of reps he could have seen to learn the position at the NFL level. Next year he will hopefully be 100% all year and we can see what he can really do when given the reps in practice and plenty of game time to grow.

I agree and hope so. Most rookie Dts struggle anyway. I just wish I was more confident and knew more about Fariley that I didn't care at all that we let Corey Williams go if he does go.

Article explaining the situation....honestly it doesn't look good for the Lions...they just have to hope Calvin really wants to stay here..I dunno

Why wouldn't he? He's got a young passer than just went for 5k. This is the best place for Calvin. And no way Detroit lets him walk..

I don't think it's in CJ's character to walk away. He a quiet, humble guy. He's not a drama queen. He's got the best up and coming QB in the league. He'll get paid, but he'll stay.

Yeah everyone knows even CJ that you don't see the last year of your rookie deal when its ridiculous money like that. Fitzgerald had the same issue and resigned and same with Adrian Peterson. As long we make him the highest paid WR, which he deserves, Lions will be all good.
