Coaching openings

Why are so many people here bringing up McDaniels. Do you have any reason other than they've both been in New England or did I miss something along the way?

They both were in NE
Mcdaniels wants to be a HC
Ours sucks
New gm probably wants to hire his own guy not be stuck with mayhew scraps.

It's just educated speculation.

McDaniels was a trainwreck as a HC in Denver lol. Your speculation is completely uneducated. Or did you forget?

According to Mike O'Hara, a Patriots insider said Quinn is likely to keep Caldwell in Detroit.

I'd take 1 more year of Caldwell over that McDonald's guy that everyone keeps mentioning :D

Not me. Not that I'm interested in McDaniel's but I can't stand Caldwell. There are some other good coaches out there. I actually like Hue Jackson, Cinci's OC.

49ers new HC.

If Caldwell stays I might as well end LKP's ban.. It'd be over at that point.

Again, lots of speculation about Caldwell, but it's all a pile of guesswork by guys who have nothing solid to report, but still have to crank out a column.

The team hasn't even released a statement confirming Quinn yet, although Wood has confirmed it. And yet, prior to a press release on the hiring, we have reporters already saying whether he will keep Caldwell or not. It's insane.

There are only two guarantees at this point:

1. Quinn has not said a word to anyone in the media about his intentions.
2. Quinn has a pretty open field to choose from since no coaches have been hired yet.

That doesn't mean he will or he won't keep Caldwell. It just means he has all of his options in front of him instead of it being "Caldwell or nothing" because no one is left on the market.

The guy is going to have a hell of a couple of week ahead of him regardless of what he does. He's got to figure out which members of his new staff he's keeping, who he would ring in as replacements, how to improve the scouting system ahead of the Senior Bowl, Combine, and Draft. Is he still going to have his top offensive weapon. Who his coaches will be. What his draft strategy will be. Does he need to help find a defensive coordinator. What hsi overall cap situation is.

All that and he doesn't have his key to the executive washroom in his hands yet. Trust me when I say he hasn't yet, nor will he be soon, stopping to make sure Mike O'Hara is up to date on the latest gossip.

We're all going to read a lot in the next two weeks about what he's "likely" to do. I wouldn't put any stock at all in any of it until you hear it from the Lions.

I would like them to interview Hue Jackson. Looks like Gase will go of the board shortly.
