Coaching openings

Looks like Couglin to the Eagles, Shanahan to the 49ers.jobs are filling up.

It's obvious the Lions have no interest in searching, like Tony said, they know who they want otherwise it's Caldwell. I refuse to believe it takes 4 days to decide whether to keep or fire the current HC. Plan A and Plan B are already worked out, they're just waiting now.

Yes, I had forgotten the Giants. I did not include Tampa because there had been zero rumors about an Austin interview, and they have a Rooney Rule exemption for this season.

Looks like the Giants are finalizing with McAdoo. Looks to me like Austin's best hope of being a head coach next year is with the Lions if they do decide to fire Caldwell, which could still happen.

Lions and Titans expected to fight over McDaniels. Report says Titans is the better job.

That's the one thing with taking a long time. If McDaniel's was his target, now it becomes more tricky. I don't want Caldwell but I certainly don't want him because he was a fall pack plan. Maybe Caldwell is his 2nd option but why?

I would have just cut bait on Saturday and started interviewing guys right away. Maybe he finds a good match out there. I can imagine talking to Caldwell "You're okay but I'm looking at someone else. Just hang around if I can't get them."

There are several teams in addition to Pats who are still playing.

Personally, I don't think any discussions/interviews should be allowed until after the SB, but what do I know. It's just odd how much happens at this point, fighting over each others scraps. I prefer idea of waiting for more successful coaches who cant be contacted yet over the scrap heap currently getting interviews and job offers.

I think that extra time is a huge factor. With the SB typically taking place at the start of February, add a week or so for a coaching search, you're already in the middle of February. Then the combine is a week or two away, free agency less than a month away, 2.5 months to prepare for the draft, it would all come very quickly. I also don't know how long it takes to build a staff, so that's a factor too.

Just because you're still playing doesn't mean they have better coaches.

And a HC is just a part of it. The rest of the staff - maybe the better possible OC and DC and ST coaches are gone. I doubt, McDaniel's for example, already has a ready made staff available.

49ers expected to choose between Chip Kelly and Mike Shanahan for their next HC, per league sources. Decision likely within next 24 hours.

Coughlin withdrew his name from Eagles gig... Interesting.

I still think IF Caldwell goes, Quinn will bring in someone that nobody has thought of or mentioned, a guy like Jon Gruden comes to mind.

What about the now former Tampa HC? As far as Jon Gruden, can't stand him.

Chip Kelly to SF... Good luck with that.

On the plus side, SF is pretty much guaranteed to have a better off-season compared to last year.

Doug Peterson OC for the Chiefs reportedly the Eagles number 1 candidate.

I have got the OP as it now stands in all likelihood. The only question marks are with the Titans and Lions. If Mularkey stays that just leaves us.
