We actually know how it spreads, and SOME countries (China, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand) have successfully contained it. More reasons to get vaccinated even if you've had it. In fact, unless you maintain the vaccines are either completely ineffective, or actually harmful to you, you should still get them, as they'll provide some additional protection from reinfection or severe infection even if you have it, and something is better than nothing.


Given that the number of new cases in the US has been well over 500,000 PER DAY for the last 20 days, and the moving avg. has been over 800,000 cases/day more recently... that's millions of cases.

If the reinfection rate is 2.5% among the unvaccinated as the study above revealed, that's 25,000 new cases per million, at a time when hospitals are already all backed up.

yeah, it's not more reason, unless you're at high risk of severe illness due to age and/or existence of comorbidities. People who have recovered from prior strains have an extremely low risk of severe illness from Omicron - of those 25k new cases you referenced, it's virtually all cold symptoms, maybe a bit of a soar throat. I may have had Omicron because I've had some cold symptoms lately but the PCR test isn't reliable for me and won't be for several months so I'm not bothering with it.

Yes, they do say that. They've said it many times - natural immunity has been shown to be more effective than the vaccine in several studies. This is simply wrong.

it's not even remotely universal. Before my family got it in December, most of the cases of COVID among people I knew were break through cases for fully vaccinated people. And now we're learning the vaccine isn't effective against all strains. It's also not something everyone can do in this country. There's literally nothing universal about this vaccine. Also, I'm not taking a "fuck it" stance here - I'm not anti vax. That's also completely wrong.

People do change their habits but are probably less likely to when they're constantly being lied to and having their rights taken from them through lockdowns, or being forced to take vaccines they don't need or wear masks that don't work. People are fighting literally EVERYTHING. CDC has its problems....ofcourse they do...its a brand new virus and they had to create the rules. People didnt want to listen to any of it.

Vaccines - dont think i need to go into examples here. But they were fairly effective at limiting serious illness with earlier variants and prove to limit replication.

Including several months of denial at the start that there even was a virus. Then once we find out theres a virus...lets bring all the americans back to this country with no protocols. Go read about full cruise ships of people all infected roaming freely amongst the general population. Go read about an entire plane full of infected people from France freely unboarding and walking amongst the general population in a major airport. Theres countless examples of Chinese comming here for citizenship in a hub like LA during the onset...with 0 testing. Rooms of thousands of people lol.

So i realize i didnt answer your question about how to move forward. And thats because we did such a shit job of managing the first 2 years....we're now fucked. It either silently goes away like alot of people on here are hoping for. it gets worse and we all die. Or it stays basically the same forever...our kids figure out how to live with it the best they can...medicine gets better. There are only 330mm people in the US and the vaccination rate is something like 61% - 535mm is probably not the correct denominator for determing the death rate. 3rd grade math dude. Also, the 40k (it's actually closer to 50k - 48,465 per the slide) is only counting Medicare patients. Medicare covers about 59.4mm Americans. The slides don't say how many of those 54.9mm are vax'd but it's safe to say your math is WAY off.

Edit: and literally no one is saying they don't care about the deaths. Just because they don't want destroy the economy and cause all sorts of unintended negative consequences by following your ill-advised strategies doesn't mean they don't care. It just means they don't agree with you.

You guys keep saying you are not pro-mandates yet you keep pushing the language of pro-mandate. Everyone should be free to their own choice on getting a vax or not... but not really, everyone must get the vax.

How much is out there matters. The amount matters. Duration of illness matters. 'vax options do not stop its spread' is a misleading thing to say. Same misleading thing that been said in many forms since the beginning. Sadly, it's less great now with this new variant - but still. All of this matters and impacts the odds of the next significant mutation coming sooner rather than later.

I used to not get the flu vaccine. Then an older person I interact with mentioned to a group of us that it can make a difference for her and her friends at their age and I've gotten one ever since.

Still arguing these particular points about mandates is curious. You think I've changed my mind? There's no simple rule. They aren't always good or never good. I bet if Trump and Biden just ripped the band aid off from the second vaccines were available and did enact widespread (but not complete) mandates I would have seen it a heavy handed, but we'd be better off now. After a year crying about mandates from people that aren't impacted by them - I feel like we got the fallout of mandates without the benefits. There was a whole wave of people that even got vaccines as soon as there was a variant they didn't work as well on. Tragic.
