Vaccines aren't his pet project. They've been helping humanity survive pestilence and plague, and thrive since the 18th century. Some, or even most of us wouldn't be here if it hadn't been for vaccines. And others would be disfigured by smallpox and polio, and other afflictions.

CVOID-19 isn't his pet project? It's all he's talking about. And it's the only vaccine that I'm talking about in this context.

"If you let people communicate" said by Donald Trump looses another wave of impeachment indictments.

As for your question?

1. Tracking
2. Profits
3. See 1. and 2.

As bad as the phrasing is either way, there's a difference between 'when you let people communicate' and 'if you let people communicate'

I thought toilets were his pet project.

He's also into nuclear power and vaccines, but he loves toilets.

Anybody catch the proposal for the potential next stimulus bill? Tons of military spending, cuts to federal unemployment insurance... Pretty dubious stuff.

I haven't seen anything about the Military spending either.

The unemployment benefits need to go away or get significantly reduced. Too many people are not going back to work (or not looking for jobs) because it's better to just sit on their asses. $15 per hour, based on a 40 hour week) to sit at home and watch netflix.

The PPP loans are also sketchy. I know the company that I work for qualified for a loan between $350K-$1M and we are extremely busy. Everyone is still employed and we are making more money now than before COVID. Essentially, the owner of the company has been paying us with taxpayer money.

I've heard of the $1.7 billion for a new FBI building, replacing the one across from a Trump hotel.

The idea or the software? I thought he took more from IBM. But I could be wrong.

We're getting a little off topic here, but Gates' mom was on the board of United Way in the late 70's/early 80's, and used her position to "convince" IBM to contract with then-unknown Microsoft. Once they got their foot in the door, Gates/Microsoft engaged in all sorts of anti-competitive behavior to gain a stranglehold on the market.

(Or as Billionaire-Luvers prefer... this risk-taking maverick dropped out of Harvard - Harvard! - and introduced the amazing software he developed by himself to the world. Once consumers and PC makers saw how great the software was, they all applauded and rushed to buy it - freely choosing Microsoft's operating software over the alternatives in the market because it was so superior - making him rich and successful.)

Either one implies that we are being permitted to communicate. Though he did say "when."

And it also implies that Gates himself believes he is a source of truth about vaccines as being universally safe and effective. Neither one of those assertions are true.

I get it, but I wonder about the context. If he'd been talking about why this is a thing in the US as opposed to China, then it would make sense to say something like that.

Clearly Gates entertains zero tolerance for dissenting views on the topic and would prefer to see it suppressed. That's disturbing, at minimum.

While i agree with this...its not really the peoples fault that they get paid more to sit at home than go to work. If anything that should accent the problem that wages are too low and rich people are selfish morons that probably deserve to have half their staff sitting at home not wanting to go back to work.

I don't think that's clear at all.

Not unrelated to the whole chicom thread, you can be in favor of free speech, but acknowledge that with social media it can lead many to unfortunate behaviors. In that discussion, a lot of what you say can sound anti-free speech out of context.

Labor wages just aren't what they used to be and they probably never will be again - so we moved to a service industry. As we learn to automate the service industry, I'm not sure where we're supposed to look for new jobs.

Service is a tough place to expect wages anyway. At least in labor, technology could make a person more efficient, so a million people effectively buy a fraction of a second of a laborer's time through a product they get a lot of use out of. In service things are more 1-to-1 and one person can't reasonably get ahead serving 1 other person.
