Coronainsanity

This requires an update. Trump is the major thing the parties disagree on now.
are you kidding? It's not an all or nothing thing though.

Both parties - I mean like the actual DNC and RNC - are equally upset he hasn't started a new war. That's why you see former Bush staffers flocking to support Biden, and Biden making statements that he'll be more hawkish than Trump on Venezuela, Iran, Russia, China, etc.

But other than that, they love Trump... he's so malleable, like he has so many open conflicts of interest and openly fraudulent dealings, that the establishment knows they have plenty of leverage to make him do whatever they want.

And he's such a stupid asshole, he makes himself a lightning rod for criticism.

So Pelosi can do her "sideways clap" ...

trevor-noah-calls-out-trumps-totally-calm-twitter-tantrum-700x420.png

... and her and the DNC can pretend to be an opposition party without actually doing anything to oppose all the handouts to the military industrial complex or Wall Street, while actively opposing reforms that their constituents want.

(I included the Trever Noah pic, because he's a huge dooshnozzle too)

Single party state!

Those guys who come in and say "We need a moderate who can come in here and work with both sides of the aisle" ... WTF country are they referring to that actually has a functional opposition party?

I think you'd find more principled differences of policy between "Chicoms" in Beijing than you'd find between the Democrats and Republicans in the US.

It amazes me how bad "the greatest country on the planet" is at containing an outbreak. You have fucking like 80 movies to pull from that tells you exactly what to do during a pandemic. You have fucking bill gates that told you 5 years ago it was going to happen. You have countless organizations that provide funding specifically for this. And we treated this shit worse that a 3rd world country. Americans have been awful and pathetic during this pandemic.

For the love of God.

I agree. Americans have, on a large scale, been negligent and cavalier about this virus.
We're not the greatest country on the planet.

We're great at catching the Corona Virus!

great clip by the way....it seems tv writers thought this through much more than our government has. Sad really.

Im not big on conspiracy theories but i had a hard time with all the Bill gates talk. I know he does a lot with his money. But he has special groups developed specifally for this type of thing, called this out 4 - 5 years ago, has more money than half the planet combined....and yet here we are 5 years later and were not ready? Seems off. Easy stuff....Like not even close to enough ventilators. Mask Shortages. like what the fuck have you been doing the last 5 years if this was your big thing and were not even close?

At the same time hes done so much more than everyone else so its hard to place blame. I guess its a situation of not knowing what you need until youre in it....

I agree. Americans have, on a large scale, been negligent and cavalier about this virus. Not one 10th of one percent has completed a shred of independent research on it. It feeds on the information spewed out by Mass Media outlets, which, in total, reflects our world as a cartoon, and this virus as the shovel in the face.

Are you aware that the average IQ of Americans is 98? That's pathetic. We're not the greatest country on the planet. Our educational system is designed to arrest learning and independent thought. Our government is corrupt to the core and has no integrity. The prognostication of this pandemic was not prescient; it was planned, and the movies and Gates were laying it out there for the masses, on the remote chance that it would actually pay attention.

Even the West Wing spelled it out in plain language in 1999. @1:50, but the entire clip is worth watching.

"Do you think you have to be crazy to create something powerful?"

Damn.

She?s a great actress, but I?ve never really seen Allison Janney look doable in anything before this clip.

Good post, Byco!

Anybody catch the proposal for the potential next stimulus bill? Tons of military spending, cuts to federal unemployment insurance... Pretty dubious stuff.

I haven?t heard about the military spending - is it tons on top of the tons that are already being spent?

Yeah, separate from the military bill that just went through the House and Senate. I'm trying to find the actual document. I don't know who's bullshitting at this point so I'm reluctant to share what I've read so far.

When you let people communicate, you have to deal with the fact that certain incorrect things that are very titillating can spread very rapidly compared to the truth. And we’ve always seen that with vaccines,” Gates said in an interview with CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin that aired Tuesday on Squawk Box.

Gates is an elitist sociopath, in my opinion. Billions are at stake, and nothing will get in his way. I expect that he'll advocate mandatory vaccines. And I wonder how a virus that can be killed with soap and water can evade to date being neutralized with a vaccine. If you watch the interview, his agitation is palpable and there isn't a shred of empathy.

Bill Gates hasn't done shit.

All billionaires are bad. We'd all be better off if none of them had sucked up that much of the world's resources under their control, and could decide if they wanted to "help" the rest of us or not, by sprinkling some small percentage of their grosteque wealth to a "cause." Don't fall for their bullshit PR. No human being should have that much power and control that amount of money allows them to have.

You don't become a billionaire without being a sick, sociopathic (maybe even psychopathic) person. It's time we started seeing them as such, and stopped celebrating them as "success stories."

Also: vaccines are good.

People who think vaccines are bad are... uh... how do I put this nicely? ... aaam... not living in reality.

The idea that the guy is elitist who wants to control communication doesn't explain why he developed one of the main operating systems that helped average people use computing technology.

Mildly surprised that you can categorize Gates as a sociopath and then endorse is #1 pet project as "good." Puzzled, in fact.

You're giving him way more credit for the success of MS-DOS and windows than he deserves.

We'll never know what could have been if Gates' wealthy and connected parents hadn't helped grease the skids for Microsoft to monopolize its market. Maybe we'd have better operating systems now?

Vaccines aren't his pet project. They've been helping humanity survive pestilence and plague, and thrive since the 18th century. Some, or even most of us wouldn't be here if it hadn't been for vaccines. And others would be disfigured by smallpox and polio, and other afflictions.

Ok, I should have used language that gave him less credit for the development, but that's not the point. While others also worked towards that goal, the fact that he worked towards that goal undermines the idea that he is against such things.

"If you let people communicate" said by Donald Trump looses another wave of impeachment indictments.
