We have had dualists, the chronically ill, philanderers, rapists, drug-users, manic-depressives, ?distortionists?, egomaniacs, the detached, the inept, and the unexpected serve as president.
There?s reason why the executive needs to be the least influential branch of government.
EDIT: The one president from Michigan was one of five never elected. (The other four are Tyler, Fillmore, Andrew Johnson, and Arthur.) I wonder what brand of football coach he?d have made. Or what sort of president Harbaugh would make.
Ironically, I?ve encountered two references to the relatively anonymous Arthur in the last two or so days.
A night or two ago, I watched a film about the machinations amongst Edison, Westinghouse and Tesla titled ?The Current War,? and the character of President Arthur was briefly depicted in a scene.
Then yesterday, two guys, Petros Papadekis and Matt Smith, who have a weekday radio show on the LA Fox Sports radio affiliate mentioned Arthur in some context or other. They primarily focused on his facial coif - it is fairly unique amongst the presidents.
