Coronainsanity

I heard an explanation for this. If you cut off alcohol, you get a wave of alcoholics going to the emergency room which impacts everybody else if you're trying to keep hospital resources free.

That is a load of shite. From all 360 degrees.

Liquor stores may not seem to be essential businesses in these times of social distancing, but they are indeed essential to the survival of the nearly 15 million people in the U.S. with AUD. Far too few of our community members with AUD have access to evidence-based treatment, and the risk posed by liquor store closure may inadvertently contribute to overwhelming the hospitals.

That being said, in the middle of the summer, we had a point where covid numbers were pretty low here and I went into a liquor store. I'm not going back until the vaccine is available. Small isles and people that just don't give a shit. There were 3 other people in the store and it was still like playing Frogger trying to keep away from them.

I mean... it's at least more plausible than the idea that there is an omnipotent, all-powerful being in the sky who gave us free will & loves us, but still spends his time judging us on our actions, and will condemn us to unimaginably awful fates for all eternity if he disagrees with our actions...

You're a lot more fastidious than I am. I find the risk of shopping indoors reasonable, as long as everyone has a mask, and I limit the amount of time inside. still, if a place looked crowded (i.e. more than one person per aisle) I just didn't go in. And under no circumstances will I eat indoors... everyone takes their masks off and blabs and talks for hours in an enclosed space!!! it's insane anyone could even think that was safe if you were 6 feet away from others.

I think even as bad as it was in July, based on the numbers there weren't THAT many cases around here relative to the population, so the chances that you'd even encounter someone who had it were still less than 33% or so in any given situation. But given the huge & still increasing number of infections, I'm re-evaluating all this.

Believe me I get the effects of alcohol withdrawal. I witnessed it first hand. For decades. Over and over again.

That said, I withdraw my statement. My experience still rankles, apparently.

I will add, however, that every business is essential to the people who work there and who own and operate them. And the governments that order them to close are not themselves closed.

That is a load of shite, from all 360-degrees.

they should pay them to close. and pay everyone to stay home. the money will still get circulated and taxed and everything will be fine.

I think the real reason they won't do this, is the population will start to ask too many uncomfortable questions of why we're supposed to kill ourselves working bullshit jobs normally, while the rich sit on their asses high on vicodin and booze, or golf most of the year away...

There is no such being as you describe. This is disappointing to read from you, as it's the rationale of someone much younger who has conducted zero investigation on the topic.

I'll go hit the books and read up more this weekend...

That's pretty much what I meant by 'Boo'. You went into better detail.

an OBLIQUE STATEMENT... on THIS message board?!?!

I don't discount you for being an atheist. Or bring the subject up out of thin air. In fact, I don't think about your non-belief much at all, unless you express it.

I'm just saying, we have some long-time posters here that seem to make nothing BUT oblique statements.
