That's right! This America! We base things on feelings and traditions!
Easy. Basing your decisions on feelings while mocking facts is one thing; but tradition?

"See this chair? Fielding Yost sat in this chair. See this nail? Fielding Yost hung his hat on this nail. And you're telling me we had better stuff at Miami? No, men, we didn't. We have tradition here, Michigan tradition, and that's something no one else has!"

What a blatant example of the “deep-state-corporate machine” on one side of the debate and an actual person on the other side of it.

“There’s a big difference between a big box, a restaurant and QUITE FRANKLY even a church (!)” You’re damn right, you smug, arrogant puppet: Big Boxes make money for their partners. Big Boxes advertise on your networks.

I want to buy Santelli a beer. So I can toss into “WHO IS THIS’S?” Face.

Thanks for this.

First things first - obviously, she?s pretty hot.

Some of you guys might not remember Tim Conway - he was a real funny comic on the Carol Burnett show among other things, anyway his son has a radio show out here in Los Angeles now. He had her on the radio last night and there?s a go fund me page for her and a certain amount of money has been raised.

I don?t know how old she is, but I?m pretty sure she wasn?t even born at the time I purchased my first cocktail there at the Pineapple Hill back in the once upon a time. Don?t know how she came to be owner of the bar, I suppose I could drive over there and find out.

The order that has shut down outdoor dining is an abomination. There is absolutely no science whatsoever that indicates outdoor dining is responsible for the spike in cases. It?s actually the opposite - county?s own data indicates that.

The shut down edict came from the county public health director Barbara Ferrer who isn?t even a doctor ? she has a PhD in African-American studies or somesuch thing.

In my business, I deal with restaurants regularly, and I have been encouraging them to protest this with acts of ?civil disobedience.?

I?ve been telling them to keep the seats out and if inspectors come by ? which is highly unlikely ? tell them ? ?these are public seats we have set up as a public service. All of these people seated here are participating in a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest. In solidarity, We are providing them food and beverage at our normal very fair and competitive prices. All of our staff is doing this in a Covid safe manner.?

Fuckin? enough.

That's messed up. Some places are shutting down parts of downtown streets to vehicles Friday and Saturday evenings so they can use the street for outdoor dining.

they should pay them to close. and pay everyone to stay home. the money will still get circulated and taxed and everything will be fine.

I think the real reason they won't do this, is the population will start to ask too many uncomfortable questions of why we're supposed to kill ourselves working bullshit jobs normally, while the rich sit on their asses high on vicodin and booze, or golf most of the year away...

To think you actually have a degree in economics from the university of michigan. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad - actually, it's still hilarious.

Impassioned presentation: And Papillion responds with an ordinance that is the equivalent of passing a bill that mandates submarines have screen doors to keep water out.

"A. ?Face covering? -A face covering is defined as a covering which, when worn properly,
must cover the nose and mouth completely and can include a paper or disposable face
mask, a cloth face mask, a scarf, a bandanna, a neck gaiter, or a religious face covering.

These are not DESIGNED to minimize the transmission of viruses.

"Medical-grade masks and respirators are sufficient face coverings, but to preserve adequate supplies, their purchase and use is discouraged for those who do not work in a health care setting or in other occupations that require medical-grade personal protective equipment."

These MAY BE effective in minimizing transmission of viruses, but the public is "DISCOURAGED" from using them.

On its face, ordinances like these are posturing at best, and spread a virus far more lethal than COVID: Ignorance.

Where there are flaws in mask guidelines, they should be called out for being insufficient. If not for your previous posts, I could read this post in that way.

The very concept of "mask guidelines" is flawed. There are either effective or ineffective masks. "Bandannas are better than nothing" is not proof, or even a rationale that they are even marginally effective.

We are not even instructed to wear masks that actually work. Source: New England Journal of Medicine.

So, what is the actual reason? Symbolism, according to the New England Journal of Medicine.

"We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection. Public health authorities define a significant exposure to Covid-19 as face-to-face contact within 6 feet with a patient with symptomatic Covid-19 that is sustained for at least a few minutes (and some say more than 10 minutes or even 30 minutes). The chance of catching Covid-19 from a passing interaction in a public space is therefore minimal. In many cases, the desire for widespread masking is a reflexive reaction to anxiety over the pandemic."

If we stopped wearing masks, and if the media would stop bombarding us with COVID, this story would evaporate in a week. We've seen it happen once already, over the summer.

It's irresponsible for a municipality to enact an ordinance that does not accomplish what it purports to accomplish. Where is the scientific data that even illustrates that bandannas and scarfs are effective in limiting the spread of a virus?

Just keep your distance. Wash your hands. Sneeze and cough into your sleeve. Wipe your surfaces. Demonstrate a modicum of common sense.

I know this is anecdotal evidence, and therefore meaningless (unless it happens to confirm any of your existing positions on things, in which case it is just "evidence"), but I noticed yesterday at the liquor store a surprisingly large number of healthcare workers (still in scrubs, wearing face shields and masks), with thousand-yard stares on their faces, throwing booze in their carts. There were maybe 20 customers in the store during the time I was there, and I counted more than half of them in scrubs.

But this is probably not related to the nationwide, uncontrolled spread of COVID in the last month... right? Just a lot of doctors and nurses boozing on Monday night.

Please just wear your masks indoors, and in public.

"There's no reason to be walking around with a mask," infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci told 60 Minutes on March 8, 2020.

Now, masks are "incredibly effective" in "preventing the spread of the virus" ... "even working 'as well as surgical' masks." According to Fauci, the expert in infectious disease, in September, 2020. And he likes Biden's 100-day plan.

This entire article, published in September, 2020 is backfilling, IMO.

This article from the NEJM is inconclusive and speculative on the effectiveness of universal masking "might help reduce the severity of disease and ensure that a greater proportion of new infections are asymptomatic."

If I am ever ordered to wear a mask outdoors in uncrowded circumstances, I will refuse.

If coughing into your sleeve makes sense, how do other masks not make sense? (Not to imply the virus isn't also spread by breathing rather than only coughing.)

And, considering the infection and death rates, if you don't think masks work, how do you propose we get the infections down? Lockdowns?
