Hey Chicken Little, the number of infections doesn't tell you anything about the severity of those infections. It's almost as if you don't understand how any of this works. People aren't getting sick as dogs - the Omicron symptoms are very mild. Even the left wing press is reporting that. How can you be unaware of this?

Look at the chart. the # of new cases per day rate dwarfs anything we've seen so far under prior variants. if severe Omicron cases are even like a 1/10th of what Delta's were, it would overwhelm our hospital beds (as it appears to be doing now).

I just did a search for "Americans hospitalized with omicron" and pretty much every single news network is reporting on it. Children are being hospitalized with it at higher rates than prior variants as well.

The reporting on this is widespread.

If the "liberal media" were trying to protect the job the Biden administration has done on this front, the coverage is undermining that

Im having a hard time understanding how Omicron is "mild" and how this "is over" when the hospitals are flooded. Rising cases should have nothing to do with it if all the cases are mild. We should be able to be at 2 million cases a day and 0 hospitalizations if cases were mild.

Think of it as if it was you....if i have a cold. I stay at home and drink some powerade and blow my nose into tissues for 2 days. What i dont do is get my ass up and go to the hospital. If people are doing that id say its probably pretty serious.

The problem with this....is simple math. When you have the infectious rate being as high as it is....most say 10x more infectious than delta. Some have said 3x more infectious than the measles...which is the highes known infectious virus known to man. Then ofcourse that will drive the death rate to extremely low numbers...especially when a high %age of people at this point have done the right thing and got vaxed/boosted. That says nothing about how dangerous it is...especially when were talking about increased number of cases among children.

2/3 of the people in hospitals who are testing positive for Omicron in the hospitals went in for something other than omicron. ?Mild? means zero symptoms, like 2/3 of the people in the hospital who are testing positive, or it means almost nobody is dying. ?Hospitals are flooded? is the same hyperbolic horseshit we have been hearing about this for going on two years.

Of course they're reporting on it. They haven't stopped reporting on it but what exactly are they reporting? That infections are up and serious illness and hospitalization rates are down. So share the data - where are hospitals being overwhelmed with Omicron infections? We're peaking hear in terms of infection rates and our hospitals while seeing an increase (off a very low base), aren't at or near capacity. And re: the kids - please try to stay current Karen. Even Fauci dismissed that misinformation about kids being hospitalized with Omicron. He said kids are testing positive after being admitted for other issues including injuries like broken legs.

In this piece CBS NY does their best to freak you out without actually giving any helpful data. Here in the very last line of the article is where they admit they're overcounting the pediatric numbers (note they don't even give the actual numbers - there's probably a reason for that, lets' see if you can figure out why that might be).

I'm not sure you understand what a death rate is. The higher number of people infected doesn't drive the death rate down. The death rate is lowered only by a lower percentage of people dying when they get the disease. Now, you could argue that getting vaccinated will drive the death rate down. Or you could argue that the variant is less deadly. But saying that more infections drives the death rate down just isn't accurate.

they're not both true and since you bring it up, if you can stay home and drink powerade and blow your nose for a couple days, why can't people with COVID do the same thing? Why do they have to get a vaccine that doesn't prevent infection or spreading of COVID?

ahem...you realize you're describing yourself right now. Everyone on this side of the argument is against vaccine mandates. They're all totally fine with you or anyone else taking the vaccine, wearing a mask, etc, etc. None of them are bitching about you or anything else.
