I hope you're right. But losing JV for a game still sucks. And I'm not sure getting 4 batters out after the HR is considered a groove.
but he struck out ajax and maggs to start off then delmon's homerun was a flyout in comerica. he is no slouch and i hope we can hit him better sunday. nova should be easy [/quote:uo7ddqn5]

Its 2 innings dude. If SP are unhittable after getting in a "groove" we'd have a shi load of 20 game winners. And goove or not, it doesn't effect guys like Miggy and Mart. Plus Raburn struck out with rain pouring down his face. Same could be said for Avila.

Mitch]HE DID NOT LOOK SHAKY. A strikout where the C missed and two GB where the defense fumbled and lead runners weren't thrown out. In fact the one hit to Miggy should have been an DP. And he walked a guy, far from shaky. And anyway, how many times does JV have a lengthy first to moving them down for 8 innings? He's the freaking triple crown winner and CY Young.

Everything you said about him bouncing back is probably right, but I thought he looked shaky.

25 pitches only 14 for strikes.

I thought he was having trouble locating, and hitting the spots he wanted.

Could have been the rain/wet ball, but CC threw 27 pitches and 20 for strikes.

We'll never know if he would have settled into his groove after, but I was concerned.

Fair enough but I still like our chances with JV out there. The rest of the rotation for NY doesn't scare me but I also not sure if Scherzer and Porcello scare them. I like Fister and honestly haven't seen Nova but he's been pitching well. So these matchups could be the deciding factor.

to be fair, at least several of CC's "strikes" were definitely balls (the first 2 pitches to vmart spring to mind).

to me, rather than looking shaky, it looked like he was trying to be a little too cute on the edges of the zone and was missing too much and getting squeezed a bit. the defense is what looked shaky imo.

The one that bothered me on defense, was the Inge muff. If you're out there for your defensive prowess at least make some plays.

And the defensive blunders may have rattled him and explain why he was not as sharp as normal (shades of '06)

I'll grant you if Avila gets that ball in the dirt and throws Jeter out, and or Cabrera gets the lead runner at least....it's maybe a different JV.

im a little less upset with cabrera than with inge and avila's bad throw, it looked to me like he fielded the ball in the baseline and likely would have hit granderson with the throw if he had tried for the double play, so he took the sure out at 1st. its true he might've been able to pull it off, but with your best pitcher on the mound you might as well take the sure out.

inge however has no excuse, jeter wasnt even halfway to home when he fielded that ball...its like sometimes he purposely makes the wrong decision. avila just made a poor throw.

Note to Inge -- Bases loaded, 2 outs tie game, throw to first dude.

:)

The Rays who squeaked into the playoffs when the Yankees decided to screw Boston?

The Rays we destroyed in the season series?

The Rays are who you're more worries about than a team that won 97 games and has a +210 run differential?

you people being afraid of the Rays makes no sense, they have better pitching on paper, but the Tigers have made plenty of good pitchers look stupid this year, it's the bad ones that give us fits.

I hated the Oriholes late 60s-early 70s

I hated the BlewJobs for much of the 80s.

Now I hope that both of those teams finish ahead of the Dead Sux and Whankees next season.

I have to grudgingly give the Rays organization props for what they have accomplished since '08, and apparently their farm system is still loaded with future MLB star potential....BUT it is really too bad that a franchise like that is wasted on the Tampa-St. Pete area of FL, when there are places like say Buffalo, who would likely enjoy/embrace/sell-out every game, having an MLB team like that.

Buffalo, really? Plus I don't want the state of NY having 3 teams. Put them in Oklahoma, they seem like they could support a team. I know that's football country but man it could be huge.

Buffalo was considered for a ML franchise idk how many years ago.
It could still happen someday, but that is one place they would definitely need a retractable roof like toronto.
More likely a southern state on the Atlantic coast.

Not sure Tampa would be any better. They have trouble filling the seats in Miami.

true.

Rays just announced Game 3 is a sellout. And MNF is in Tampa that night.

true but if you read the book "the extra 2%" they have a list of complaints and how the stadium was built in the wrong side of the bridge because of the person who wanted to buy the franchise. a huge problem they have right now is that the bridge they have to go into the get to st pete is always congested and takes around a hour to get across during game day. they could always look into having a team in indiana or one of the carolinas

If they add a team or two I hope it stays away from areas that already have multiple teams, like NY, California, Texas and go elsewhere. Carolina wouldn't be bad and I hadn't thought of Indiana but that would be a nice spot. We need more midwest teams.
