Detroit Lions - Team Notes

P Sam Martin (ankle) is expected back sometime in training camp, per Caldwell.

Lions Jim Caldwell won't talk about his contract situation. Said even his wife doesn't ask about his contract.

Caldwell won't bite on any Stafford contract update questions.
Caldwell -- Stafford is focused on football, the others in this building will address Stafford's contract.

Caldwell said the suspensions to D-linemen Thornton & Bryant will certainly bump some of the other guys up on the rep chart in camp.
Caldwell on 2 suspended DLs: "We're disappointed in them. We're upset with them."

Lions Jim Caldwell: We think we have a really good core, looking forward to getting them on the field.

Caldwell -- Matthew Stafford might be in the best shape he’s ever been in at this time of the year.

Lions HC Jim Caldwell said he knows LB Zach Orr is talented but right now he is focused on the guys the franchise has on the roster now. He said never say never on whether the team would bring him in. Said he has a good corps here now.

Lions HC Jim Caldwell said a walk through with the Patriots will give them a chance to work on situational things against another team.

Lions HC Jim Caldwell said he is focused on getting his team ready when he was asked about Matthew Stafford and getting a contract done before the start of the season.

Lions S Glover Quin: First goal is to win as many games as you can to get into the playoffs. Then "you shoot your shot." Said obviously every team's goal is to win the Super Bowl.

Lions S Glover Quin said he hopes he can stay in Detroit beyond this year. He's in the last year of his deal. Most of it, though, he's trying to stay out of it and if it happens, it happens.

Lions S Glover Quin said he believes the expectations are different around Detroit now. They are higher and the entire feel around the organization is different than it was when he arrived.

For the first time in his career Lions QB Matthew Stafford worked with a QB coach in California. Said the changes are "nothing that you guys would see that would make a difference," but it is part of what he's doing to make himself and his team better.

Lions QB Matthew Stafford said he is just trying to focus on football when asked about his contract. Said the Lions and his agents are continuing to talk but no timetable for a deal is set. Said he would talk to his agent about whether or not they want negotiating to continue into season if necessary.

DE Ezekiel Ansah and OG Brandon Thomas are going on PUP for the Lions.

LT Greg Robinson and DE Cornelius Washington now on NFI.

OT Cyrus Kouandjio and CB Teez Tabor are off injured lists and should be good to go tomorrow.

This likely means Kouandjio and not Robinson will get first shot at replacing Taylor Decker at LT.

Also opens up a spot for someone to push Washington early at DE.
