Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

1968 vs. 1984
Ever wonder who would win if the 1968 and 1984 Tigers played in a best-of-seven series?

Such as a World Series?

There are three ways to find out, except that the first two ways are probably predictable.

The 1968 Tigers likely would vote for themselves.

And the 1984 Tigers likely would vote for themselves.

One way would be to conduct a computer simulation of games ? and that?s about to take place soon.

Specifically, it?s going to be part of the evening featuring Tigers from both those championship teams, which former player Dave Bergman has organized on behalf of the Joe Niekro Foundation.

The date of the matchup is June 19. It will be held at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial.

Niekro, who played for the Tigers and won 221 games in the majors, died in 2006 at the age of 61 from a brain aneurysm.

The younger brother of Hall of Famer Phil Niekro pitched for the Tigers from 1970-72. Joe Niekro and Bergman were teammates for the Astros, for whom Niekro won 21 and 20 games in 1979-1980, respectively.

In 1979, Niekro finished second to Bruce Sutter in the National League?s Cy Young Award voting.

According to the Niekro Foundation?s website, an ?astonishing lack of public awareness and under-support of research of such a widespread and often fatal condition led to the launch of a crusade to educate and encourage awareness about aneurysms.?

The goal of the foundation, of which Bergman is chairman of the board, is ?to raise awareness about aneurysm factors, causes, treatments and research.?

The dinner event is being called ?A Series to Remember ? the 1968 and 1984 World Series Detroit Tigers.?

In addition to the computer simulation, players from both those teams will answer questions about those two World Series.

Tickets start at $250.

More information about the event can be found at joeniekrofoundation.com.

Tigers trainer Kevin Rand: (Jackson) ran the bases very well. It's the 3rd day in a row we've been able to do that. Each day he's done progressively better.

Rand: (Jackson) went through all his normal baseball activities, what he would do to prepare for a game. We'll reevaluate him Sunday.

Rand: Basically we'll reevaluate (Jackson) as to readiness. The next step is for him to go out on a rehab assignment & begin to play.

Anibal Sanchez scratched for tomorrow's start with stiff shoulder. Jose Alvarez will be brought up to fill his spot Sunday.

Tigers say they expect Sanchez to make his next scheduled start. As with any other pitcher scratched with stiffness, we'll see.

Anibal Sanchez will not start tomorrow's game vs. Cleveland due to a stiff shoulder. Is expected to make his next scheduled start.

Head athletic trainer Kevin Rand said Sanchez fatigued quicker last start. Didn't recover as well. Had similar issue with Marlins in past.

Tigers trainer Kevin Rand said Sanchez has had this issue before but they don't believe it's serious.

Jose Alvarez will have his contract purchased from Triple A Toledo prior to tomorrow's game and will start for the Tigers.

Octavio Dotel will be transferred to the 60-day DL tomorrow to make room for Alvarez on the 40-man roster.

Smyly no longer stretched out to start.

Sanchez says it's more his upper back than his shoulder. Tightness. Says he had same issue last year, one skipped start cleared it up.

Tigers Sanchez: It's not my shoulder, it's my back. It's part of the back of the shoulder, nothing front.
Sanchez: I know that people would say about my shoulder, you got a lot of concern. But it's not my shoulder.
Sanchez: It happened 1 time last yr in the 1st inning of spring training. I just missed 1 start, take a couple days off & get ready.
Sanchez: I'm not worried. It's early, we're in June right now so we've got a lot more starts to go so I need to just take care of it.
Sanchez: That's something I don't want, make worse, even if we are early in the season.
