Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

RHB Miguel Cabrera 1B versus RHP Corey Kluber.

Head-to-head: .571/.595/1.057 with 5 HR in 37 PA.

The idea of recommending anyone against Kluber is madness on the surface, but delve a bit deeper and we see that Cabrera has figured out what Kluber brings to the table ? at Club Kluber, Miggy's the bouncer. His 1.652 OPS against Kluber is his second-highest amongst all pitchers with more than 20 plate appearances of head-to-head matchups (Steve Trachsel, 1.825 OPS in 28 PA), and the highest of those he has faced 30 or more times. The 37 head-to-head matchups is tied for fourth-most among Kluber opponents (everyone atop the list predictably plays in the AL Central), and the five homers that Cabrera has hit is two more than any other batter has managed against Kluber in his career, and are tied for the most bombs that Miggy has hit against any one player. He has also knocked in 10 runs, and though it's only 37 PA so sample caveats yada yada, Miggy could go 0-for-his-next-30 against Kluber and still own a .307/.328/.569 slash in their head-to-head meetings. Figure that the player vs. batter data is only interesting on the extremes, but Miggy vs. Kluber certainly qualifies.

Detroit Tigers:
One of the more disappointing teams this season, the Tigers spiral downward began in May. Many others stuck with the three-time AL Central division champs, but even former President and general manager Dave Dombrowski knew something had to be done.

Dombrowski sent Price to the Blue Jays for Norris, Boyd and Jairo Labourt; Joakim Soria to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Jacoby Jones; and Yoenis Cespedes to the New York Mets for Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa.

Those trades reflected the thought process of many inside the organization and for those who watch the team regularly. The idea was for a quick rebuild for 2016 and beyond. The Tigers have given starts to Daniel Norris and Matt Boyd with mixed results from both. Norris has shown promise on the major league level and Fulmer has been consistent in Double-A since he came over to the Tigers.

Al Avila takes over for Dombrowski, who left the cupboard not completely barren. The Tigers have thrown away the 2015 season, and this winter will provide as a nice spring board into what this team will look like in the future and whether they are ready to compete in 2016.

September 11 in Tigers and mlb history:

1889 - Rain prevents every scheduled game in both major leagues. For the season the National League will have 62 rainouts and the American Association 73.

1903: A new National Agreement signed by the National Association of minor league clubs officially organizes professional baseball under one comprehensive set of rules.

1928: In the Yankees' 5 - 3 win at Yankee Stadium, Ty Cobb makes his last appearance as a batter, popping out against Yankee Hank Johnson to SS Mark Koenig as a pinch hitter in the 9th. Babe Ruth's two-run clout, off Lefty Grove in the 8th, seals the win for New York.

1984 - At Baltimore, the Tigers cut their magic number to seven with a 9 - 2 clipping of the Orioles. Darrell Evans has four hits including a homer. Larry Herndon follows Evans' homer with one of his own, while Kirk Gibson has three hits and his 27th steal. Dan Petry wins his 17th. The Tigers pass the two million mark in road attendance tonight and become the fifth team in American League history to go over that mark at home and on the road.

2001 - All major league baseball games are canceled due to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, Flight #93, and the Pentagon. Games will not resume until September 17th. The Blue Jays take a 12-hour bus ride from Baltimore back to Toronto, and Yankee Stadium is evacuated as a precautionary measure. Former minor league players Marty Boryczewski and Brent Woodall are killed in the attacks.

2002: Yankee legends Whitey Ford and Phil Rizzuto unveil a monument dedicated to the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The team also has a ceremonial tree planting in Monument Park in honor the of heroes and victims of horrific events of a year ago.

2011: The Tigers win their 9th straight game 2 - 1 over the Twins, to cut their magic number in the AL Central to 7. Doug Fister improves to 5-1 after being acquired by the Tigers at the trading deadline; he was 3-12 with the Mariners before the trade.
