Detroit Tigers Team Notes

The remainder of Brennan Boesch's season has been jeopardized by a partially torn ligament in his right thumb.

It's the thumb that Boesch sprained nearly three weeks ago in Cleveland.

Trainer Kevin Rand said Monday that thumb surgery is in Boesch's future to correct the situation but he hopes it can be delayed until after the season."

I have to wonder if a DL stint wouldn't be for the best at this point, in hopes of keeping Boesch healthy enough for a playoff run. No matter what the decision, this is not good news.

Ryan Perry's been outstanding since his return.
DETROIT -- When Ryan Perry made it back to the Tigers' bullpen earlier this month, the question that followed him was whether he could consistently throw strikes. Statistically, he was perfect at that Monday night.
Though his outing came in defeat, Perry's work was nonetheless impressive. With 13 pitches, all of them for strikes, Perry induced four outs. The first one of them was a play at the plate, but he emerged from that to retire the side the next inning.
Not only does Perry have six scoreless innings on five hits since his return, he has allowed only one of eight inherited runners to score. By contrast, his longest scoreless streak before this year was a pair of three-outing stretches, but nowhere near that innings total.
