Alburquerque, Boesch still not ready for action.

DETROIT -- Al Alburquerque is eligible to return from the disabled list and Brennan Boesch hopes to avoid it, but neither is ready to play in game situations for the Tigers yet.

Alburquerque was put on the DL on Aug. 12 after being hit in the head with a batting practice line drive and sustaining a concussion. He has been cleared by doctors, but still has to get into game shape. He is set to throw a side day on Thursday.

Boesch has been dealing with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right hand for the past few weeks. Manager Jim Leyland said Boesch's thumb felt a little better on Tuesday, but that he was not ready to play yet. Head trainer Kevin Rand said on Monday that Boesch would need surgery to repair the ligament, but they were going to try to find a way to get Boesch through the end of the season before having surgery.
