Change in batting mechanics, Santiago has backed away from the plate, using more of his core to swing and hitting the ball with the sweet spot of the bat more often. The results? Since Aug. 14, Santiago is sporting a .318 average (14-for-44) with three home runs and 11 RBIs before todays win.

From Tuesday nights Tigers win over royals;
Ramon Santiago, who entered the game as a pinch runner in the eighth inning, hit a walk-off home run in the tenth inning for the Tigers Tuesday night. The last Tigers player to hit a walk-off home run in a game in which he entered as a pinch runner was Tom Veryzer on September 12, 1974 against the Brewers. Veryzer ran for Ed Brinkman after he was hit by a pitch, and later launched a two-run home run off Tom Murphy in the tenth inning for the victory.
