Tigers Are Back! Back To 2 Games Back.
from WalkoffWoodwardTigersblog

Tigers starters remain the team?s real strength: starters have allowed more than 3ER just twice in last 20G, 2R or fewer 15 times?
Austin Jackson had gone 22 games without an RBI, the streak ending with his 5th inning big fly.
The Tigers scored more runs in the 5th inning (3) than they had in 6 of their previous 7 games.

September 12 in Tigers history:

1925 - In Detroit's loss to Cleveland, 3 - 1 in 13 innings in the first game of a doubleheader, Detroit's Jackie Tavener hits a major league-record-tying three triples. Benn Karr goes the distance for the win. Detroit then takes the nitecap 3 - 2.

1974: Detroit P John Hiller picks up his 17th win in relief, an American League record, as he beats Milwaukee 9 - 7.

Tigers loosen up, beat White Sox.
from the freep

According to Baseball-Reference.com, had the Tigers failed to score at least three runs Tuesday, it would've been the fourth time since 1943 that they went seven straight road games without scoring more than twice. Such a stretch of run-scoring futility had previously happened in 1959, 1982 and a seven-game period from the end of the 2002 season to the start of the 2003 campaign.

Leyland hasn't lost control of this team. The Tigers haven't tuned him out and, perhaps contrary to seething public contempt, they haven't quit on him. But he's admittedly at a loss for answers to his team's continued offensive drought away from Comerica Park.

He doesn't want the players pressing because that never solves anything. During his daily chat with each guy on the team, Leyland reminds them that being one of the handful of teams with meaningful September games is above all else ? fun. And while those demanding that Ilitch serve up Leyland?s head on a platter if the Tigers don?t make the playoffs would disagree, Leyland assures his team that losing won?t signal the decimation of the free world as we know it.

It goes back to his theory of balancing relaxation with concentration.

Tigers Need To Win, And Fast.
from SBNation

The real problem in this month, the reason the Tigers are struggling to stay relevant at a time they need to capitalize, is the offense. Tigers batters have a combined .221/.295/.377 showing in September, with homers about the only thing going for them. Home runs are great, of course, as the cleanest way to score runs, but when you're also posting a sub-.300 on-base percentage, maybe those homers happen a little too cleanly. Have a look at the Tigers' batters by batting order in September: Lineup Slot......
