Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

Leyland on Scherzer injury: "Fortunately, it’s nothing serious. I don’t even know how you say it ... Deltoid.

Leyland: "Alex was suffering from mild concussion symptoms. He should be ready, whenever the headaches go away".

Leyland on QB: "Yeah, he'll be fine. I was worried he probably did something to his collarbone or something. Dislocated it, or something."

Leyland: "Max was standing in line when we were congratulating each other after the game."

Leyland on Scherzer: "Asked him how he was doing, and he said, ‘Fine, I’m fine.’

Phil Coke's now gone 4 straight days. "I'll give him off tomorrow," Leyland said.

Berry also had to leave game - after going 2-4 w/ 2RBI, he injured right shoulder diving for blooper..."shoulder contusion", X-ray negative.

Scherzer says it is possible that he could make his next start.

Scherzer: "Going to take a couple days off throwing, going to try to take some medication to help get out the inflammation."

Quintin Berry in good spirits after game, after X-rays were negative. He wasn't slated to start Wed. or Thurs. anyway with lefty on mound.

With A's lefties going Wednesday and Thursday, Leyland says he'll likely have a corner outfield of Andy Dirks and Avisail Garcia.

Miguel Cabrera's 1st HR came off 68 MPH curveball in the "middle-middle" part of the zone, slowest pitch he's homered off in last 4 seasons.

Cabrera's acting like he wants to leave no doubt in MVP vote - .397 with 8HR and 22RBI in last 17Games.

Tigers 12 - Athletics 2: Miguel Cabrera's 2 HR, 6 RBI lead Tigers to victory.
from blessyouboystigersblog

The Tigers are 78-69, 3 games back of the White Sox, 5 game out of the 2nd wild card with 15 games left to play.
The White Sox have won 5 consecutive games and 7-3 in their last 10. The Tigers are 5-5 in the same span.

Triple Crown watch: Miguel Cabrera is 1st in the AL in batting average at .333, 1st in RBI with 129 and 2nd in home runs with 40 (2 back of Josh Hamilton). Without question, the Triple Crown is in play.
When asked what he knew about Carl Yazstremski was (the last Triple Crown winner, back in 1967), Cabrera replied, "A lot!"

Via ESPN Stats and Info: Cabrera is the 2nd player in Tigers history with 3 separate seasons of 125+ RBI, joining Hank Greenberg, who had 6 such seasons.
More from ESPN Stats and Info: Miguel Cabrera's 3rd inning HR went 446 feet, his 9th HR of 440 or more feet this season, most in the majors.
40 home runs is a new career high for Cabrera. He hit 38 in 2010.
Cabrera is now 10th on the Tigers' all-time list for home runs in a season. FYI, Hall of Fame 1st baseman Hank Greenberg holds the team record, hitting 58 home runs in 1938.
Cabrera is the 1st tiger since Cecil Fielder to hit 40 home ruins a season. Fielder hit 44 in 1991.
Cabrera's grand slam in the 8th, the 3rd of his career, was the 1st of the season for the Tigers.

Thanks to his 2 run shot in the 5th, Prince Fielder reached the 100 RBI mark for the 5th time in his career.

No longer a gas can, Phil Coke had not allowed a hit or run in September, until allowing back-to-back hits in the 7th.

Quote from Max Scherzer in the post game: "My arm felt dead." That's not encouraging. Scherzer added he felt fine through warmups, but felt his arm losing strength through the game.
Feel free to start panicking if Max Scherzer ends up missing a significant amount of time.

Avila: "According to the doctor, once the symptoms are gone ? which in my case is headaches ..."

Avila (2/2): "... they?ll put me through the test again, and if everything checks out there, then I?ll be good to go."

So what's true story? Tigers say Alex Avila doesn't have concussion; Jim Leyland says he has concussion symptoms. He still has headaches.

Avila has mild concussion symptoms at the moment (headaches). Bright lights and activity were bothering him in the locker room after game.

Miggy on triple crown: "It?s not easy. There?s a lot of competition, lot of good guys .... It?s hard thing to do, you know? Gotta get lucky".

Miggy on Tigers chances: "Yeah, you gotta always believe what you have here. We have a good team."

Miggy (2/2): "We need to be more consistent the last 10 games here, the last six games on road. We gotta believe we can do it."

September 19 in Tigers and mlb history:

1917 - In the first of two, the host Red Sox make eight errors to help the Tigers to a 5 - 2 win.

1937: Tigers first baseman Hank Greenberg becomes the first player to hit a homer into the center field bleachers at Yankee Stadium. Detroit wins 8 - 1.

1960 - Chicago's pennant hopes are damaged with a nitecap 7 - 6 loss to the Tigers, after they win the opener 8 - 4. Pinch-hitter Norm Cash scores the decisive run in game 2. Cash thus ends his year by grounding into no double plays, the first American Leaguer to do this since league records on this were started in 1940. Teammate Dick McAuliffe and Roger Repoz will duplicate this in 1968.

1968 - Denny McLain's 31st win is overshadowed by Mickey Mantle's 535th homer. McLain allegedly calls C Jim Price out and tells him to inform Mantle he's throwing the slugger nothing but fastballs. The home run gives Mantle undisputed hold of 3rd place on the all-time home run list. Mantle tips his cap to Denny as he rounds third base. Joe Pepitone, the next batter, signals where he would like the ball, and McLain dusts him. The Tigers win the game 6 - 2, the 12th straight complete game for the Tigers staff.

1980: At Tiger Stadium, Al Kaline becomes the first player in franchise history to have his uniform number retired. The First Ballot Hall of Famer, who wore the number 6, played rightfield like he invented it for Detroit from 1953 to 1974.

2001: Major League Baseball and the Players Association announce the creation of the MLB-MLBPA Disaster Relief Fund. The organizations will each donate $10 million to aid the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
