Detroit Tigers Team Notes

Tigers keep rolling....win 5th straight, push Indians 8.5G back in Central with 10-1 win in Cleveland.

Tigers jumped on Carmona for five runs in the first - scoring all five after Carmona got 2 easy outs...and it started with a walk to Young.

The walk was first for Young as a Tiger...Cabrera singled, after balk, Martinez drove in both with a single...and the rout was on...

Peralta, Kelly and Santiago followed with RBI singles to make it 5-0...and then in 2nd, Cabrera RBI dbl ended night for Carmona.

Wild pitch scored 7th run, then Peralta sac fly made it 8-0 in 2nd. Porcello took lead and ran with it...inducing GB out after GB out....

Against lineup loaded with LHB, Porcello induced 13GB outs (9 to Santiago!)....cruised thru 6.1IP, allowed 1R on 3 hits, 1BB/1K, gets 13th Win.

Coke recorded 5 outs in relief....and 4 of 5 outs were on strikeouts, mainly because of wicked slider. Coke now has 24K last 13.2IP.

Tigers now 19-7 since snapping 13 game losing streak here in Cleveland in August, and since, have hit .310 in those 26 games, averaged 6.0R/G, team ERA of 3.62

Tigers now 80-62, still 1/2G behind Texas in battle for 2nd-best record among Division leaders, and home field adv. in 1st rnd of playoffs.

Detroit Tigers Team Notes

September 7 in Tigers history :

1950 - Tiger OF Hoot Evers hits for the cycle, adds another triple, and knocks in six runs in a 13 - 13, ten-inning tie with Cleveland. The game, ended because of darkness, leaves Detroit in first place by a few percentage points ahead of New York. Al Rosen and Bob Feller both hit early 2-run homers as the Indians blow three leads in the game.

1971: Jim Northrup goes 5 for 5 with two home runs in a 3 - 2 eleven inning Tigers win over Washington.

1984: Down 4 - 0 in the 8th, the Tigers score four runs - three on a homer by Kirk Gibson - to tie the Blue Jays in Toronto. In the 10th, Dave Bergman cracks a 3-run homer and the Tigers win 7 - 4. Willie Hernandez (9-2) wins with three innings of shutout relief.

1993: Detroit C Chad Kreuter homers from both sides of the plate in the Tigers' 10 - 6 win over California. He is the second Tiger this year to perform the feat, joining Mickey Tettleton, who did so on May 7.

2002: The Tigers defeat the Yankees, 2 - 1. Detroit 1B Eric Munson hits a home run in his first ML at bat.

2007: Curtis Granderson of the Tigers hits his 20th home run. That gives him 20 or more doubles, triples, home runs and stolen bases. The only prior players to do that in major league history were Frank Schulte (1911) and Willie Mays (1957). He will be joined by the Phillies' Jimmy Rollins in a few days.
