Dombrowski: I think anytime you make it to the World Series, you have a successful year."

Dombrowski: "But it?s not as successful as it would be if you win four more games."

Dombrowski: "Our goal always has been to win the World Series, not to just make it to the World Series."

DD: "I don?t want to say that if you don?t win WS, just fall short, it?s not a successful year ? but it?s not the ultimate prize."

DD: "The ultimate challenge is trying to win the whole thing, and that?s why we?re all here every year."

Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski on Jim Leyland's contract status:
Dombrowski said Thursday night that Jim Leyland, whose contract expires at the end of the season, is welcome to come back next year. Leyland has said he still wants to manage. Is it a formality at this point, or is it something they still don't want to talk about:
"I think it is something I?d still rather talk about after the season. I think his preference is for us to deal with it (after).
"We?ve known each other a long, long time, and we talk on a daily basis about a lot of different things ? basically anything with the ballclub. So that?s how he?d like to handle it, and that?s how we?ll handle it." about an hour ago
