The Day in the D: Bruce Rondon to Get a Shot as Detroit Tigers? Closer.
1. Is Bruce Rondon the Detroit Tigers? closer heading into 2013?

Maybe the Tigers will add another bullpen arm. Maybe Rondo, who has yet to pitch in the majors, will struggle once the Tigers get to camp. At least for now, as of the winter meetings, Jim Leyland is ready to see what his young fireballer can do.

Leyland told reporters that he?d prefer not to use a closer committee next season ? Jose Valverde?s implosion in September and October forced him into that situation late last season. So, if there?s a leader in the clubhouse to be the go-to guy, it?s Rondon.

?I think we?ll get a pulse for that in spring training,? Leyland said. ?Can he make an adjustment if he lets one get away? If not, we?ll use a committee.?

The other options currently: Phil Coke, Octavio Dotel and Joaquin Benoit. Coke stepped up in the playoffs, even clinching the ALCS win over the Yankees.
