Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

Coming up on 60 years for Al in the Tigers organization. Long time, glad he's here.

1953 to 2012, this was his 60th year.
Been saying the past two years that Bud Selig should rename the American League best outfielder as winner of the Al Kaline Gold Glove Award,

Big Happy Birthday #78 to Al Kaline & yes: the Al Kaline Award for AL OF fielding would be most appropriate.

Thanks guys! I guess if there aren't a few million to be made in anything, old liver lips Bud isn't interested.

LH pitchers seem to have a longer "shelf life" in MLB than RHers. Which is why I am kinda scratching my head overanother the Tigers selling the contract of Wilk to an SK team. Schlereth just never got it together as a Tigers RP.

I asked this in anther thread: Trading a player to another country? Does Wilk have to play there and if he doesn't can he go to another ML team or does the Korean team control him now.

I'm not exactly sure Mitch, If they sold his contract to the Korean team, then he has to honor it, I would think, or they gave him a new, better $$ contract for 2013.
Maybe someone else reading this has a more definitive answer.

I also agree, but MLB might instead choose to name the OF GG w/ maybe one of the Yankees HOF OFers. Happy B-Day to Al Kaline, hope he has MANY more too!!

Thanks. Uprooting from the United States to Korea is a big move. its a job but not sure I'd be able to do it.

Doug,
Mays could/should be the GG outfielder for the National League, or even Clemente.
When the award was first started in 1957, Mays, Kaline and Minnie Minoso were the Outfielders awarded the GG. It was the only time the award was for both leagues combined.
Since 1958, it became an award for both leagues and it's players. Off the top of my head for the 1957 GG's, Frank Malzone won for 3B, Nellie Fox at 2B, Luis Aparicio at Short..maybe Bobby Shantz won for pitchers.

I was thinking this like I said a couple years back, when they had the Hank Aaron Award,
Clemente has always been in the eye of mlb since the tragic death.
it is either mlb or the BBBA something to the effect in words of the Baseball Bloggers Alliance with Jackie Robinson and Willie Mays with awards, for Rookie of the Year and/or something else for the best player at accomplishing something.

I have no idea if Wilk can turn down the move to SK, maybe he could, but then he would void his contract with the Tigers and perhaps then would need to wait awhile before he could try to sign with another MLB franchise...just a wild ass guess.
