Happy Anniversary!!

Has it been that long already?

Wow, its still too bad that ESPN had to fuck around with a successful MB format, and make it next to impossible for you to continue posting those "sticky-like" atop the old Detroit Tigers messageboard forum. I recently noticed that ESPN is incorporating Facebook into some of their articles, commentary, and blog posts, so that members must have a damned Facebook membership to post or reply within the commentary thread below them..BAH!! I don't have a Facebook account, never have, and certainly don't want to create one now.

Hope that you get well soon, KC/Ron . It seems like the older that you get the more discomfort and the weaker that you feel from combating a severe cold or the flu. I have not had the flu in ~15 years, but have had severe colds about every other year, on average. I didn't get sick at all last year, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will avoid contracting either one. My wife very rarely has had a cold, and never has had the flu for as long as I have known her, so she has been very fortunate in that she apparently has a strong immune system, but obviously not when it comes to substance abuse/addictions.

Hi Doug, Yes it's been that long, and I had thought about doing it for the two months after the 2006 World Series. Recently retired mid-year, and this year was difficult to keep up with all that my old mom went through, at times I wondered how I could keep doing it, other times it was a sanctuary away from real life, which thankfully all turned out good for her.

If espn had left well enough alone, we most likely wouldn't have gone to Monster's/Jessie's board and eventually here at DetroitSportsForum. There was still a stubborn 5/10% that didn't make the move with us.
I made sure to send messages to everyone that posted there and I was 'friends' with at the profile.
I have seen that espn and the change over to some facebook, looks like some of their writers like Schoenfield who was getting alot of insulting comments, and a few others so maybe they decided to go that format to save them from regular espn posters telling them how bad they suck.

I was always good for one cold a year while working at the PO. Breathing the stagnant/germ air from 100 people and all the people they came in contact with outside of the office.
I have taken vitamins since I was about 21/22, so the past 6/7 years and no colds or anything health issues, was a good run at my age.

Good to learn that everything turned out okay with your mother. But sometimes one's sibling(s) can become a big disappointment when it comes to family problems/matters, I know that all too well, from past experience. But when it comes to the inevitable bitter(sweet) end, and the decedent's estate has to be dealt with, they are right "t-heir" up front and center with their arms crossed in expectation of obtaining their cut of the inheritance pie, if there is any slice to be had.

I admit that I was a little bit surprised that MSU alumni and Tigers fan Sbee313 didn't make the move along with the rest of us. The MSU Spartans forum here on DSF sure could use more fans, friends, family and alumni, they don't even have a game thread posted for tonight's Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl game vs the TCU Horned Frogs tonight?

You are probably spot on with your take on why Facebook has become increasingly prominent on ESPN and is becoming required and necessary to post or reply below their scribes' sports articles and opinion pages. Helps to limit or prevent us "riff-raff" from dissenting, insulting or berating the authors and reducing the work needed to weed them out by moderators.

I used to get a cold at least once a year while working inside USPS mail processing facilities, Handling the same machinery and equipment that was used by hundreds of other employees meant that you had to wash your hands frequently, especially while operating hi-speed machinery with belts and moving parts that postal management had forbade the use of any type of gloves, to reduce the chance of injury. But after the anthrax scare of '01, they "suddenly" relaxed the rules a bit and permitted us to wear thin latex or non-latex gloves.

December 30 in Tigers and mlb history:

1907 - The Mills Commission on the origins of baseball reports that the game was invented by Abner Doubleday in Cooperstown, New York, in 1839. The Commission is convinced by the testimony of Abner Graves, who claimed to be a childhood companion of Doubleday's. Grave's story is later "verified" when an old, rotting ball is found among his personal effects; the ball is now in the Hall of Fame. The Commission ignores the fact that Doubleday did not graduate from West Point until 1842.

1926 - The Chicago Tribune breaks a story that the Detroit Tigers have thrown a four-game series to the Chicago White Sox in 1917 to help Chicago win the pennant. Responding to the publicity, Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis convenes a hearing on the matter, but dismisses all charges. Landis can find no witnesses to confirm any part of Swede Risberg's claim.
