valentine isn't faring any better...matter of fact he's doing worse.

Francona's sox teams made five playoffs in 8 years and won two WS titles.

You got someone else with a better resume?

I guess your statement supports keeping LJ. The Red Sox thought Francona needed to go and thought the grass was greener with Valentine. Look how that turned out.

yep.

but my original post was in favor of keeping JL with only francona and gibson as people I'd prefer...and I do agree that given the way things ended with the sox it makes francona a little shaky and gibson signed that extension...not sure if he has a buy out to go to detroit (not sure even what his interest level would be to come to detroit...I'd think pretty high)

Well, I guess there's always going to be that question if we get rid of Leyland, who do they bring in? I guess with that logic, we should keep him around forever, no matter what.

he smokes 3 packs a day.....his days are numbered!

I believe if you can make a move for Francona or Gibson you have to make a change IF we miss the postseason with the talent this team has. It is HIGHLY unlikely a change would be made unless your bringing in a notable name to replace him with.

Besides Cabrera, Fielder, Jackson and Infante in the field and Verlander, (a healthy) Scherzer, (a healthy) Fister in the rotation...what talent are you referring to?

I'm only in favor of keeping leyland or going out and snagging francona.

Would love to see Gibson hook back up with the tigers but I know he signed an extension

Not sure Gibson would want to manage here. Pretty sure, actually. Damn certain, in fact.

That's a pretty solid core to start with imo. This year's team just has some pieces that don't fit.

The tigers have 3 of the top 25 players in offensive value and four starting pitchers all under 30 that are in the top 30 WAR for pitchers over the last two seasons..(granted one is sanchez...a FA but I get the feeling DD either resigns him or a similar player)

You bring back V-Mart who will decline but hit .330 in 2011 and you have a core of 8 players that all hold tremendous value over their average counterpart in the league.

I think it's a great starting point but as we've all seen this year the tigers have a few guys in spots that they have no business in...the 6-9 hitters being a total black hole for example

For most of the year it was the #2 hole and 5-9 that were terrible.
