Fister to be placed on disabled list on Sunday.
Press Release from the Tigers official site

Tigers placed RHP Doug Fister on the 15-day disabled list with a left costochondral strain.
The injury occurred in the fourth inning of Fister's Saturday debut against the Red Sox. Drew Smyly should slide into Fister's slot in the Detroit rotation, with Duane Below, Andy Oliver and Jacob Turner the leading candidates to take over the No. 5 spot. It's not clear how long the 28-year-old right-hander is going to be out.

I was afraid of this. Hopefully they don't rush him back too soon and this doesn't become a nagging injury for much of the season. :(

Quite agree. From researching this condition, it appears many athletes have played through it, though that would cause great pain. Roger Staubach QB'd the Cowboys for a good portion of one season with it. Now, was his condition 'worse'? Appears there are several levels of severity. My hope is that Doug sits out most of April, makes a spot appearance in Lakeland or Toledo, then pitches 5, 6 innings - tops -through the first half of the year. Sucks, maybe, but it could be worse, I spoz.

If it's only a strain and not a tear or separation, he should be good before long.

Yeah, that's my take. Maybe Staubach's was on his left side, as well. IOW, it's strain vs. tear and location that are critical.

IMO we need to be sure he is 100% before he comes back. He's going to be vital to our rotation this year and we can have this injury nagging him down the road.

They're just being smart with him since it's so early in the season. And credit Fister for not doing anything stupid. He took himself out of the game instead of trying to continue to fight through it.

IMO this is a smart move its early in the season and no need to push it and have him hurt it worse. Put him on the DL so hes fine and ready when the dog days of summer and the season start.

damnit. this not only sucks because it hurts us, but because of my fantasy team...

I have enough starting pitching that its not gonna hurt me (though it hurt me today), but still its gonna suck.

Yeah I have him too. I also have Justin, Timmy, Stephen, and Johan and not one of those stellar pitchers has a win yet... I thought Fister would break through for me today damn it.. It's curse of the Bob..

Fister looked good too. He was pounding the zone low and off speed was working. Tough loss, but every team has injuries, and thankfully the Tigers have some SP depth right now where spot starting guys for a month won't be the end of the world. I bet we don't see Fister again before May.

It still sucks. Instead of the best, pretty damn good, 2 inconsistent and a probably bad.., we exchange a pretty damn good for a probably bad..

Yeah, but name a team that doesn't end with an inconsistent and probably bad (or even 2 probably bad's).
