Doug Fister to the DL

Yeah I have him too. I also have Justin, Timmy, Stephen, and Johan and not one of those stellar pitchers has a win yet... I thought Fister would break through for me today damn it.. It's curse of the Bob..

What the crap? How many teams are in your league?

So we're basically operating with the same starting staff we had at the beginning of last year with Fister out. I'm thinking positive here and saying that Smyly will be better than Penny. We should be able to weather this hopefully short storm.

Bottom line: before we panic, just remember this: we didn't get Fister until late last season, so he'll contribute even more to a team that ran away with the division last year. Rest him for a few weeks, have him pitch simulated games, then a game in Lakeland for 3 or 4 innings, then bring him back. He should be fine.

That'll be be $50.00. And take an aspirin in the morning.

I hope an upgraded version of Villarreal is on-board.... something better than his 2011. We may need him as a long-reliever.

A few weeks? Then simulation and Lakeland? I hope he's out 14 more days and gets back. Maybe we didn't have him most of last season, but I still want him out there over a Below or whoever takes his spot. Its nice to start out strong and with the tough schedule, this sucks.

I think you guys are too okay about this.

I get the feeling Fister will be out 4/5 weeks, and for that amount of time, now Below will be the 4th starter, probably....with Smyly as the 5th starter. and Smyly got lit up saturday pitching for Toledo.
Not a good situation, but better now, than in September.

Even with that said, we could have Oliver, Crosby, or another pitcher to do a spot start or two we wouldn't be thinking of.

They went the DL route quickly so you're probably right KC. It stinks. Fister was the perfect pitcher after JV. Consistent. Outside of JV, we don't have that any more..

Unfortunately, I think so. One of those times I hope to be wrong....It's just with rib muscles and or that kind attachement to ribs/bones, would seem likely to be slower healing.

IMO should push come to shove the Tigers could spot start a 4th or 5th starter a few times while Fister is out. Wilks was in the running and has MLB experince. Below is set up with his relief of Fister to take his spot. As well as Coke which has had a start before, yes I know that did not work out. But a start or two would not be as demanding, as being the 5th starter. And should not hamper the bullpen too much. In fact should Max give a good start today/Sunday it could even help the pen to give it work. As JV seem to be ready with his first outing.

The bullpen will be the real need over the next few games thoe. Scherzer and Porcello first outings will need to be good ones IE inning eaters. And there is not any reason they should not give good outings. Right?, were're only playing a Bosox and Bay team right. This could be a real test of what this team can do.

Porcello is Porcello, you get what you get. Scherzer is the wildcard. He's like a road map, all over the place. And I'm not really looking forward to Smyly and Below getting an extended look as starters at the same time. I could handle one spot but two spots, the offense is going to have to keep doing it.

How you guys feel about now with no Fister for a few weeks? Way to step up Scherzer..

We needed Fister..

Status unclear as Detroit Tigers' Doug Fister placed on disabled list with left side injury.
from Mlive

Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand referred to the injury as a strain between two ribs.
?We just have to get him pain-free,? Rand said. ?Once we get him pain-free then we can move forward.?
Rand said Fister?s treatment in the coming days would consist mainly of ice treatment in an effort to relieve pain and inflammation. He confirmed the injury is unrelated to an oblique strain.

Go offer Oswalt a bucketful of money

Didn't they already try to do that?
I have no issue with getting him but I might try some of the young guys first, you never know we might find lightning in a bottle.

One thing is for sure, I would rather we let Fister get healthy and give him an extra 2 starts off than rush him back and risk losing him all year or something

I had read that Oswalt would need several weeks to get ready after being signed and he was shooting for a mid-season return.

Does he think he is Roger Clemens or something?
I'm sure it would take a few weeks for him since he didn't go through SP
