Just because it symbolizes racism to you doesn't mean any more or any less than anyone else's opinion. It becomes racist because of what you believe it represents and what you are willing to spout off about it. It doesn't make the symbol any more or less racist than any other symbol.

You could take any controversial symbol, say a Christmas Tree, and have many (mostly PC nutcases) say this is an offense to every Muslim that has ever lived.

Same is true for the swastika. It boils my blood to see anyone use it for anything, because of what it means to me. I am not ashamed to say it, but I know what I am doing - I am not na?ve about the use of any symbol.

I highly doubt the others on this board are any more na?ve than you, but when you let everything be run by emotion, it is bound to happen.

I'll say this. We have the freedom to burn flags if we choose to. We can stomp on them and wipe our asses with them. America is strong enough to get through an insult on that level. Is it in poor taste? Of course, but I'll never lecture anyone on any side for that. Freedom. Gotta love it.

As for protesters burning and hanging effigies of Trump, that's crossing the line of what I consider moral and is nothing but abuse...and a threat. Tea Party did that to Obama and all of my friends went crazy. Hell, I even got pissed.

If you let it get to you, then the instigators know what to do next time they want to get back at you or belittle you, just desecrate your revered symbol, the one known to get under your skin if it is disrespected. Same thing can happen if you use a symbol where it is known that a large majority of people associate it with something that they absolutely abhor. It is way to get you to react emotionally. As soon as you do, in either case, they have won.

EDIT - BTW I am not immune to it, those things work against me too, I don't always take the high road on symbols, but usually after the emotional explosion, I realize I was just played.

This is probably the wrong thread to try to grey up the area of Confederate flags, and anyone flying them in Michigan is probably an asshole and fuck 'em, but I also think some people fly them because they are in denial about history.

I don't know this, but this is what I think, some of the history stuff has been in the press recently-ish. After the Civil War, people weren't flying the Confederate flag. It was brought back by the KKK in the 50's or 60's. 100% racist. Over the course of 2 generations of racists waving that flag, knowing what they mean, but publicly having to make up a story about it being a symbol of their heritage, we finally had a crop of people that grew up around it being told it was a symbol of their heritage. Some fraction of them never were exposed to the real meaning. So now, they cling to it and deny the history, not because it's such an important symbol to them, but because they don't want to admit their parents or grandparents were KKK sympathizers.

That's just some fraction.

I still think most of them are racist.

In the 2010 census there is almost 90 million more whites then other groups in America right ? I would bet my house there is more racist white people then minorities and that is what I said . We have already talked about the judicial system till were blue in the face but still about 75% of whites do not believe in a racial bias the judicial system.
