Election Aftermath

I recently got a catalog in the mail for a bunch of mall ninja shit - stun guns, crossbows, collapsible batons, gun accessories, swords, "tactical gear" that looks like it's largely for show. I was wondering how I got on their list.

I've read comments about this shit in a couple other places, namely the proliferation of sites and booming sales of "tactical gear."

It's pathetic, but that's apparently a huge business now... grown men who want to play dress up, like GI Joe.

Oh, sorry... or as they prefer to be known "Patriots defending the Constitution."

...now I'm getting targeted ads for "Maverick Wallets" that have that two-tone American flag logo we used in the Iraq War and wannabe dress up GI Joe guys put on their pickup trucks.

internet advertising man! they know their market so well.

I'm totally gonna buy one! My MAGA buddies will be super impressed: "Cool Wallet, Bro."

A point is made here that Trump's current impeachment trial focuses too much on the Capitol breach and not enough on his asking to find 11,870 votes in Georgia and his thwarted plan to to replace the DOJ acting attorney general with someone that would follow his order to push the evidence of fraud narrative.

"Free"...??? they - like all other "think tanks" - are funded by defense contractors, And Biden signs off on the budget that feeds them, just like Trump did.

I'm not surprised when Pelosi gets it wrong, but why didn't Harris step in? Tell them "Ja'Impeachment needs some work."

She didn?t have any Constitutional authority over the House that day, and she still doesn?t.

She won?t for four years until elector certification day, the day the Veep had the power to arbitrarily reject states? certified slates of electors the VP doesn?t want to recognize, and change those states? certified electoral outcomes.

This is where we part ways. I don't need mall ninja 'tactical' gear, but what's wrong with a flag on a wallet, you communist?

Their International Board of Directors is a who?s who list of psychopaths.

The donor list is equally intriguing.

They have experts with a wide variety of backgrounds, and welcome differing opinions, provided they always conclude more drones, bombs, and missiles are the answer to every problem.

? The Atlantic Council promotes constructive leadership and engagement in international affairs based on the Atlantic Community?s central role in meeting global challenges. The Council provides an essential forum for navigating the dramatic economic and political changes defining the twenty-first century by informing and galvanizing its uniquely influential network of global leaders. The Atlantic Council?through the papers it publishes, the ideas it generates, the future leaders it develops, and the communities it builds?shapes policy choices and strategies to create a more free, secure, and prosperous world.

My question to the Atlantic Council: ?What exactly does freedom, security, and prosperity mean to you??

A Vote At Home Act will be passed by Democrats. Link

I think this is a mistake and stands in contradistinction to the very principle and purpose of casting a vote. Just because we can do something does not mean that we should.

they discovered how easy it is to rig an election that way. All they had to do was tell everyone to 'pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, this was the most secure election in history,' and their base eats it up hook, line and sinker.

Security or lack thereof is not my main objection. Voting is a sacred duty that should require some measure of effort and purpose to complete. It should be conducted in the public square in the presence of our neighbors, and we need to see our hand-written paper ballot ballot be counted.

the integrity of the election is paramount to me. I'm not sure what value requiring effort adds if it doesn't also ensure the election is secure - is it to make voters appreciate the seriousness of the action? Sort of like JPII writing on the virtue of suffering?

I totally agree but it will never happen - just look at the threads on voter ID laws on DSF. A shocking number of people on this board are under the impression that getting an ID is too onerous, or disproportionately affects minorities. The push for in-home voting is all about control, not convenience.

Appearing in person and completing a vote on paper is by nature secure.

When the Republicans win a mail-in general election, the Democrats will most assuredly claim ?voter fraud? and the Republicans will vehemently deny that voter fraud occurred.

I'll take it a step farther, gerrymandering would really be more effective if everyone was required to walk from their homes to their polling location. That seems even more natural and I see nothing that discriminates by race if you ask people to walk.

That one for sure will piss off rural (typically white & conservative) voters, even if their districts aren't extremely gerrymandered. Jeez, Josef Stalin, even I don't want to go that far...

They just need to plan an extra day for voting. I don't see how this could disenfranchise anyone, they'll all follow the same rules.

Yes, this would be satisfactory, for the most part. Except that my daughter lives several miles from even the main road that takes her to the tiny town she lives in. She’d have to drive somewhere.

So? Let it. They can always opt out of voting. Or there can be exceptions where the precinct is as close as possible.
