I'd like to see what Detroit's D-line could do with Seattle's secondary.

Get StartedI'd like to see what Detroit's D-line could do with Seattle's secondary.
I think you'd see a lot less 4 man rushes. Would be tons of fun to watch.
Isn't that what we saw pretty much all year long?? Would be a lot more fun to watch if the opposing qb's had to even hold the ball a couple seconds longer on average each play. Sacks would spike.
Since Avril plays only on passing downs, won't he have to play every down vs Manning? That will open up the running lane to Avril more frequently.
Manning is going to torch Seattle. They met in the preseason. Yeah, preseason doesn't mean squat, but when Manning was out there you know Seattle had their #1 D out there too. Just check out Manning's stats for his limited time on the field. He did that without having 2 weeks to study and prepare. Sure Seattle has undoubtedly become better, but Manning will have them figured out by now.

As usual with games like this, the real key will be less about the strength vs strength of the two teams facing each other, but the other sides of the ball, Seattle's offense vs Denver's defense. Can Seattle's offense keep Manning off the field? That's usually the best way to beat Manning, have long sustained drives by your own offense.
Gotta admit, a combination of Avril and Ansah would have been much better than Ansah and Young.
Young had a very good season and brought hits and hurries along with much better run defense than Avril. 3 sacks, 8 hits and 48 hurries in 499 pass rush snaps. +5.1 run defense.
Avril 367 pass rush snaps 8 sacks, 10 hits and 28 hurries. But -4.7 in run defense. Avril on a much bigger contract that skyrockets(9 million cap number day after Super bowl) this year for Seattle. And Avril of course had a secondary that could cover longer. 5 extra sacks and 2 more hits worth due to coverage?
We'll see if they bring Young back or roll with Jones/Taylor/Ansah but Young had a good year for Detroit. It would be smart to re-sign him at the proper price.
Maybe I'm wrong but I'm recalling you wanted to keep Avril, glad to see this post.
Who would rather have CJ Mosely(run defense) and Leroy Harris(depth) or Willie Young. You could cut both of them and get Young back with the extra 2.8 million less 2 minimum/rookie (500k) contracts=2.3 million for Young.
You could also cut Jason Jones (2 million cap savings) and get Willie Young.
Or cut Mosely, Jason Jones and Harris and have 4.3 million to spend to get a pretty good player.
I'm not giving up on Jones. I thought he was a really good signing and I hope they don't let that injury scare them off unless they see obvious problems in the off season.
I think I'd rather have Young over Jones. Jones didn't show much the first 2.5 games. 1 hurry in 2.5 games and poor run defense. Young has no injury risk either. It's possible to keep both too but just throwing out a possibility if needed.

I'm just going to ignore the preseason talk because it's irrelevant. All you have to do is look at the Lions 1st and 2nd halves to know that a lot can change through the course of a season, let alone from pre season to Super Bowl.
I just don't see Peyton getting away with some of the ducks he throws vs that Seattle secondary. I'm not saying "Seattle is going to torch Peyton" like you seem to think Peyton will do to Seattle, but I do think Seattle will make Peyton look very human and the game will end up being a close one.
**Edit** I decided to humor you and look at that box score. Did you just look at 11/16 and say "Wow, Peyton had such a good game!"?
1st drive - 3 and out
2nd drive - Forced fumble/turnover
3rd drive - 80 yard drive, TD
4th drive - Forced fumble/turnover (returned for a TD)
5th drive - 3 and out
So even if you think pre-season games actually mean something (lol) how could you look at the Broncos 5 drives and think Seattle's defense can't handle it? Seattle's defense has 2 weeks to prepare as well, I don't buy what you're selling at all.
I Would have gave Avril the SB MVP.
