Fielder: Needs reality check

Yet he somehow signed a 9yr/$214mil deal... must not have been that big of a deal to those writing the checks, huh?

Well, he did sit out there for a bit, if I recall correctly. I think some of what WE are saying is that if we want to see the Tigers get their money's worth for all 9 years, Prince might want to do something that will add to his longevity.

Longevity?

Babe Ruth played 22 years, I'd be willing to bet my life savings that Prince Fielder is in better shape than the Babe was. Both are probably over eaters, but Babe also drank heavily and smoked.

Prince will have played 18 seasons when his contract is up, and likely will still be playing well.

Could Prince stand to lose a couple pounds? Sure.

Will it greatly effect his ability one way or the other? No.

Byco, Tonyballs says that "NOBODY cares," so it must be true. I mean, come on, notice the ALLCAPS on the nobody. That means that he really, really means it.

You got it, sunshine. I REALLY meant it.

The Tigers sure don't give a shit. Neither should you as long as he keeps on bashing.

ehhhhhhhhh I never mentioned that he should lose a ton of weight. That would be silly. I suggested, quite a few times, that he could stand to lose about 20 pounds. That is not really a ton of weight.

I feel that he does look obese. Tinsel has floated around a shirtless pic of him and it ain't pretty.

I've already mentioned that a few posters here have already sided with me on this and that several people that I know in real life do care, so you're repetitive "nobody cares" comment couldn't be more wrong. Actually, if you look at how mad you got over the whole thing, I can tell that you do indeed care.

Mad??? Bahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. I'm infuriated. Are you kidding me, buddy? You couldn't be more wrong. majority of the people don't care what he looks like. The smart people actually. It isn't a fashion/model show where people need to look like Gabe Kapler (he was shit by the way). As long as you produce is what matters. He didn't produce in the playoffs, but you can't say it was or wasn't because of his weight. You have zero proof.

pow!!

Varying degrees of right and wrong here about Prince,
He is overweight, but he hits great, smart, and with power,
Could he stand to do more for conditioning/toning, yeah sure,
but will it, taking some off now, improve any of his hitting, maybe, maybe not,
probably would improve his running on bases or for getting to pop fouls, etc.
It might have been said early in the thread, but if Prince gets a few more hits in the playoffs, does this thread happen?
but, there are very very few Perfect ball players or perfect looking, and even those players who look like the perfect build, some can't hit for shit, gabe kapler?? and then Babe Ruth, a beer barrel body on a couple of toothpicks,
A few years from now, Fielder will to need to look at his situation a bit closer, to continue his position at first base, larger players do usually lose it faster in the early 30's, than losing everything more gracefully into their late 30's. Meaning, he is a DH in 5 years or so, if he doesn't take say 20 lbs. off. jmo.

What I don't take all that seriously with my mod position;
when it comes to arguing about a player(s),
....everyone needs to have their say, including the varying degrees of insults, ......
make their points, and hope it moves on.
when it doesn't stop after a few days, like before with one maybe two threads since monsters board/the move from espn, the thread stops with a lock. sorry, that's how it is,
at least my feelings whether anyone likes it or not, Stuff continues, and animosity/anger goes on when the posters see the other they argued/insulted with in the same thread.
so please, let's not go way overboard after this post, everyone made valid points on either side of Prince's size. thankyou.

Ok ok...i'll keep it PG. No more name calling...i got carried away. Sorry, KC ;)

Ruth's was not always fat, and we're talking about Babe Ruth. Prince Fielder is no Babe Ruth Apples vs. Cinderblocks comparison.

Mo Vaughn, David Ortiz, Terry Pendleton, John Kruk, Cecil Fielder, Miggy, Kirby Puckett, Tony Gwynn, Kung Fu Panda.....there are plenty of fat guys who are and were damn good baseball players. Prince is large and yes he could stand to lose some weight but he's actually a good athlete. I think it would be a bigger deal had he just recently put on this weight...but he's been big his entire life. He knows what he's working with.

I didn't say fat one time in my post, because frankly it's a stupid argument and I ahve been avoiding it.

But he (hungry) addressed longevity as a factor and I'm pointing out the fallacy of that. Fielder is in better shape, does not smoke, and if he drinks it's certainly not to the level that the Babe did, and Feilder has access to all kinds of cutting edge medical diagnostics, and therapy.

And Fielder is no Ruth, yeah, no kidding. I was not comparing their stats or offensive production.

When you put it in ALLCAPS "WE", does that mean you really really care too?

Nope, just emphasizing the fact that I'm not alone on this side of the argument despite your repititive attempts to try to paint that picture. Surely, you're smart enough to figure that out? Guess not.

Well, the only way to PROVE it would be to have Prince lose 20 pounds and then go out there and be more athletic next season. Since I extremely doubt that he is motivated enough to do this, we'll never get to see actual proof. Although, it is a pretty commonly accepted truth that if an athlete works out and gets in better shape, they increase their athleticism.

Good for you! You have a couple of guys on your side...attaboy ;)

That hurts you i guess, right? His motivation sucks because he won't lose that 20 pounds that will put him over the top...lol.
