Greenberg for sure. Cabrera may end up as an all time great, too, though. His ops+ numbers are consistent with comparable greats from the past. Another 5 seasons at his current level and he's in the conversation.

Then I guess JV was a bad choice as well since he has done near enough yet. Plus, I think we should vote for who we want or we could just look at stats and determine a winner. No fun in that :)

cant be anyone but Greenberg for me. the numbers he put up in only 8 or 9 full years are astounding. He'd have had 500-600 home runs if he hadnt served in WWII. Miggy will probably have a better career when its all said and done, but Hammerin' Hank was amazing. plus, he could do one thing that so far cabrera cant: play above-average defense.

also, as has been said, who cares? the other one will be the DH lol.

Greenberg for me... Another thing Hmmering Hank could bunt..
Game 7 of the 1945 world series the Tigers won 9-3...
In the tigers 5 run first inning guess who came up with runners on first and second and already one run in and laid down a sacrifice bunt... Hank did... Can you imagine a clean up hitter today bunting...

Other than Ozzie, I don't think so.

Greenberg rightfully up 12-11, however I would like to see a poll like this again 5-10 years from now

I was going with Stormin Norman and Evans, until I seen Cabrera on the bottom.we've had some pretty good 1st basemen thru the years, but Cabrera is the best I've seen year after year.

biggunsbob[/color]]No worries... Both are going to make the team.....

Cabrera has only been with the team for four seasons...not sure he belongs on the team yet. Dale Alexander put up great numbers for a couple years as well. That is who Cabrera should be compared to (as a Tiger) right now.

You think Cabrera should be compared to a guy that had 3 years in Detroit with ops+ of 147, 118, 119?

I understand that you strongly believe that Greenberg should be the guy, but nonsense doesn't help your argument.

Greenberg was great, but he did play 70-80 years ago, and not everyone has a appreciation for baseball history. Plus, it's difficult to compare eras. Greenberg was the third best 1st baseman in the AL when he played, maybe that's a factor? Not that he wasn't great, but he wasn't as good as Gehrig or Foxx.

Then why did you add him to the list :)

As I said before, if you're going with the guy that has the better stats - one that most of us have never seen play, why not just auto him to being the 1B? Why put JV on the team, he still has aways to go. Or why did some say Pudge at catcher, he wasn't here very long.

You kind of have to project some future numbers for the young players or its pointless. Cabby is going to blow up Greenberg's HR numbers, Doubles, and a few more.

It was sarcasm

Cause people would complain if I didn't. I got a complaint b.c I did not include Dean Palmer!! Originally, I was going to stick with guys that had 5 years with the team, but didn't b.c of Mickey Cochrane.
