Five Reasons signing Jose Reyes Is a bad Idea

In nine season Reyes has averaged 118 games a season.
In seventeen season Jeter has averaged 142 games a season.

Jeter 147 over last three years and his 131 this year was his lowest total since 2003..

In seven season in the big league Robinson Cano averages 150 games a season.

Last five years it is 159 a season...

Prince Fielder 159 games a season his last six seasons.

He drops to 142 games a season if you count his rookie season.

Last three 161.666667.

Ryan Braun 154 games a season his last four years...

145.8 if you add his rookie year of 118 games...

So Mitch you can spare me this because if you pay a superstar 20 million a season I want him to play more games the Jose (bad wheels) Reyes..

we got a combined 120 games from Ordonez and Guillen for a mere 23 mill. I'd roll the dice to get Reyes for only 120 games at 15-17 mill a year.

I have never said i would not root for jose if we sign him but as I mentioned above the contract should have some qualifiers like Magglio's did if a certain number of games or plate appearances are not reach. All I have ever said is you better be careful signing a guy with three years of getting hurt in a row... it would be different if it was isolated years but its not.. i just don't understand everyone saying "yup lets go get Reyes" without being very careful about it... it's like the injury is not even a concern..... And looking at Magglio and Carlos injuries is precisely why we should be careful with a long trem contrat to a injury prone player...

Well then In hope we get him to make all of you guys who want him happy.... I just hope he stays healthy.. Because his track record suggest he will not. But if we can get 14o games out of him and he is healthy for the playoffs the tigers will be the favorite...

that's why only 15-17 mill a year, if he had a track record of 155 games a year he'd be worth more. just so long his injury's ain't chronic and keep reappearing, then I think they should go after him.

Exactly. I'm not saying that I'm not worried about him staying healthy or that we should spend recklessly to get him, but I think Bob's painting a picture that isn't reality by including a season where Reyes barely played into an average compiled from a short time span.

Bottom line is this...we need a leadoff hitter...I don't car about WAR or BABIP or any of that crap. He's faster than Jackson, he's a better hitter than Jackson, has better base-running instincts than Jackson. 140 games of him leading off is better than 162 of JacKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKson...

i think we shouldnt be concerned necessarily with how much he's been injured, but HOW he's been injured. except for an oblique strain in '10, ALL of his injuries have been to his legs or ankles, which is not a good thing for a guy whose main asset is his speed. id be wary of signing him to a long, big contract because of that and because he will start to slow down as he ages anyways.

Just like anything else you drop his high and low year off. You take his fluke injury season out, yes it was a fluke, how many does he average then?

You obviously don't like Reyes and you're using a BS injury history to quantify your argument.

If we miss out on or pass on Reyes, I hope we take a run at Coco Crisp for this very reason.

Peralta's feelings would be hurt and his ego would be bruised if he was forced to move over to 3b.

Reyes in Detroit is not going to happen, he loves it in N.Y to much.
