Football team Has Left Paris, France

Off the top of my head, last year the football team went to Italy...after the Fab Fives first season, the basketball team went to Europe...yeah, they use money for trips to Europe.

EDIT:

The Lady Spartans of basketball went to Europe a couple of years ago.

It just seems funny that a HC giving $5 to a player or buying him lunch is forbidden but they can spend thousands to send players to Europe.

It's only just occurring to you how absurd some of the rules are?

It has to be about education. Maybe I should hand a player $5 and tell him to go learn what he can do with it.

this doesn't make sense

Michigan athletes on scholarships make what 40-50k a year since school is paid for.. Imo, that's enough. Now they get free trips to Europe. And I doubt it's for education purposes. Otherwise it would not be with the football team.

Well who would it be with then?

Maybe a professor? You really think head coaches care about his players learning anything but the play book?

Professors already go to France on the dime.

Harbaugh is old school Woody/Bo. Yes I think he cares.

Lots of student programs travel, some to Europe.

This isn't cars and tats.

It is the same anonymous donor who provided funds for these trips

Jim talked last year about having several of these trips

i think idea came from seeing how basketball gets to go abroad every now and then

Obviously compliance cleared it all

Like ML said. It wasn't paid for by the athletic department directly. A donor paid for it.

it is about education. Football takes up a tremendous amount of time and unlike other students, they don't get the opportunity to travel abroad. This gives them that chance.

Nonetheless, still odd. Was it about education when the 3 students shop lifted in China? If you really think these players want to learn while in Europe you're diluting yourself.

I can answer that in a word.

No.

Shop lifting is not about education.

The purpose of educational travel is not to facilitate shop lifting in a foreign country.

Anyone who thinks that's the purpose is deluding themselves.

Fortunately, every foreign student excursion that does not include shop lifting dilutes the percentage of shop lifting involved excursions in the total of foreign excursions.

EDIT: Dude, what can I tell ya?

If you have such strong feelings against foreign travel by scholarship athletes, I have two recommendations for you:

1) If you are ever a scholarship athlete and are offered to be taken on a foreign journey, don't accept.

2) Don't ever be an anonymous donor financing a foreign excursion for scholar athletes.

Just saying many football and basketball players don't really care about their studies. They might says it's for educational purposes but it's basically to get a free trip. Are they really going to want to know the history of the Eiffel Tower?

I don't know.

Are you the judge and jury of who cares and who doesn't?

I was a six sport athlete in high school and used to skip school occasionally and go to Henry Ford/Greenfield/MSC/DIA with my buddy. Not all athletes are mindless drones. Jock =! Idiot

And before you say you didn't say that, that's exactly what you implied.

That's a lot of sports.

When did you find time to do drugs and get laid?
