Game 1: Giants @ Lions *Monday Night Football* Thread

This impressed me. The fact that none of the penalties were stupid, tough guy, after the whistle taunting and personal foul penalties made me even happier. I have really had a hard time rooting for this team under Schwartz. And it has nothing to do with wins and losses, cuz, you know, I'm a Lions fan. I HATED the attitude and behavior, and that seems to be much improved. I hope it stays that way.

Well put, the environment seems to have changed, and I too, hope it stays that way.

Yeah, draft is not a crapshoot. There are guys that exceed expectations, and there are busts. But generally, your first three rounds are the guys that make your team work.

That's what it's all about. They'll bring Ebron along slowly but surely. Dummies on this board expect 8/100/2 from this kid every Sunday..lol. It's not going to happen like that right away. Not with all the other options on this team. Gotta be patient....

did other rookies produce in week 1 that are "offensive weapons" and "matchup nightmares"? Im pretty sure I saw Cooks and Evans make some plays. We don't expect 8/100/2 every game. We expect him not to drop a touchdown pass. Make plays match up nightmare!

Its posts like this that make me wonder if you are serious or the other side of the LKP trolling coin. If you watched that game and this is what you came away with there is no help for you. Start following the team where you live. You clearly don't want to root for this one.

so you think we need 3 TEs constantly rotating in?....1 of them being a top TENNNNNNNNNNNN draft pick that got no catches, no yards. You missed the point of my entire post completely....

I said it was evidence that he wasn't needed, not proof. I left it at that, and yes I'm as optimistic as anyone else about what Ebron can do and where this team is headed. We'll see what happens moving forward.

It's more a question of philosophy as well. I don't believe an NFL team needs 6 or more great offensive receiving options to win a championship. The Seahawks and Ravens the last few years seem to have proven that point. Yeah it's fun to watch, but is it really the best way to put together a team? I dunno I suppose. We're all hoping for the best regardless.

im optimisti about ebron as well.....but is the difference in what he can do over Fauria really worth a top 10 pick? Really? From what I saw last night fauria can do everything ebron can do.

We had three injuries in the secondary. we lost a starting Safety, primary back up and out nickel corner. If we lost three receivers, you would all be complaining we have no depth at receivers and no offensive weapons outside of CJ.

It has been said many times they viewed Ebron as an ELITE talent. You are more than free to disagree but when you have a chance to get and ELITE talent you get them. We can cut Pettigrew after this year and roll with Ebron and Fauria.

Anyone else get the feeling they were trying to force the run game a little last night after the first couple of series. Seemed like when they were spreading out the D and showing different looks we couldnt be stopped. At least unlike the old staff we went back to not trying to force the run abd began to move the ball again.

Atx, it's one thing if you lost Calvin, you can at least have a fall back with Tate as your main guy. It's another thing to lose Glover Quin/Bill Bentley and trot out guys like James Couplin and the other dude I can't remember.

Of course it goes without saying, if you lose any main guy in any position, you will be less deep there. But it's a matter of which position needs help. It's clearly the secondary, and not the offense, which was already near the top in passing last season.

Sorry, but i disagree. Ebron HELPS out this offense. Mayhew has always drafted to his strengths of the team. Offense was top 10 last year, right? He just beefed it up with the Ebron pick. And when you have a mega-super star stud like Calvin Johnson, "protecting" him is a wise investment. ;)

We hope Ebron helps out the offense, to say he does is wrong. He did nothing yesterday.

He's still behind Pettigrew and Fauria on the depth chart, didn't see anything week 1 to indicate that should change.

Not calling him a bust or wasted pick, but let's not act like it was a good pick already.

Ok, if I missed the point I apologize.

Here's what I saw:
The constant personnel and package changes seemed to throw the Giants a little bit. They were trying to defend it with a base D and the different packages seemed to create mismatches. I have no problem with three TEs rotating in. I also think I'll withhold judging our top TENNNNNNNNNN draft pick after 60 minutes of game time. I didn't like the pick either, but no one can yet tell if he will turn out to be a bust, a great player or (probably) a slightly above average player that should have been passed on at pick 10.

I was really happy with the offense overall. Stafford looked really good. Who knows if he will sustain it, after all, its only been 60 minutes of game time.

So what was your point? I took as the usual hopelessly pessimistic team, GM, player bashing that you normally post. But if I am wrong, that's my bad.

You are right we can't judge him after 60 minutes, but we can judge how disappointing it is that your first round pick was basically absent against a really bad team. Get him reps, get them early.

I guess, dub. But that's kind of the same as judging him after 60 minutes of gametime. For what it's worth, I hated the pick then and am not real fond of it now. I did like the constant package and personnel changes, though. It's sort of like no huddle, keeps the defense off balance. I cannot remember a time recently where it looked like what we were doing on offense was confusing the defense. The Giants defense isn't going to all that bad.

God their offense will suck.

Slay, Mathis and Lawson played well.

Dix doesn't fit strong safety which is what we needed. Isa did a solid job though

Slay was hit and miss. Did some nice things, but also had some serious bonehead plays.

I just read an article that says the Browns are thinking about reducing Justin Gilbert's workload in week 2.

One PI. Bonehead play. Singular.

8 targets, only 3 catches for 14 yards. 2 pass deflections. And solid in run D. +1.4 coverage.

Jernigan and Randle are nothing but Slay dominated them. And 1 target to Cruz.

no man....the offense was great. Schemes were awesome. My point was how different would the offense look if we didn't have ebron. The answer is it would look exactly the same. Maybe the 3 TE sets would be slightly different. But we didn't get any production from ebron in those sets either. From what I saw inside the 20 ebron ran 1 route....a speed out. Big deal....

Lombardi didn't attempt to isolate him...didn't plan any plays for him....on the contrary he was targeting fauria in the red zone. That could be because the one opportunity he did give ebron in the red zone he dropped the ball.
