Game 1: Lions @ Cardinals Thread

I do not even get the slightest bit upset when the Lions find new and creative ways to lose. I'm a couple decades past that point by now. I was laughing, not a joyful laugh or anything, but still a hearty but disgusted laugh.

Patricia is clueless, he's a joke and the entire staff is a joke. We play in the toughest division in football, it's going to be a long long year.

You guys who can turn the Lions off are lucky. I rue the day my dad got me excited about football. What is funny is my son never really liked sports. He likes to go to games but he knows the frustration I have watching Michigan and Detroit teams. But yesterday he was at the bar with his girlfriend texting me during the game.

Here is our conversation we were up. I could be off on what the score was when we text here or there.
=============

Adam-Starting Strong lets hope they can hold.
Me Cardinals are the worst team in the league . We need to finish Them.

Me- where are you at?
Adam - Buffalo Wild Wings. Everyone is screaming their butts off over small stuff.

Score
Me- same old Lions let the other team hang around. Lions should
Beat this team by 20+.

Adam- lets see if they can hold up. Hopefully this year will be different.
Me- Lions are just garbage we should be up by a lot more.

24-6
Me (my dumbest saying )
That td should do it lol. Do I ever learn nope.

24-9
24-16
Me- same old Lions trying to blow this game.
Adam wow they are letting it get close.

Me
SOL
Same old Lions !
Tuning a blowout win into a possible loss.

Adam- I guess we have to see how it end now.

24-24
Me- I hope they lose now. Patrica just is not a good coach.
Adam wow ! Can?t believe they gave it up SOL.
It?s pathetic.

Me up 24-6 in the 4th. What a fucking joke.
Adam-lol Sol always giving games away.
Adam-(in ot) good throw.
Adam-(Danny not getting out of bounds) what is he doing?
Adam-wow Matt almost gave it away. Lucky drop.

Me- Fuck this team.
Me- I?m dvr the rest of the season. I?m just not going to put myself though this shit
Anymore.

Adam- Lol it just sucks.
Me-yes it does.

Yup

Positives
Hockenson
Prater (as always)
Kennard
The defense through the first 3 quarters
Passing game in general, Stafford made some good throws and the receivers also made plays. I know Amendola made a dumb decision late, but he?s looking like a solid dump down option for Stafford

Negatives
Decker
Agnew
The coaching staff?s game awareness
4th quarter and OT defense
D-line, ~5ypc (with no big runs too) and they didn?t generate much pressure as a unit. Flowers seemed invisible

And as Lions-focused as we tend to be, I gotta give credit to Fitz, still getting it done at 36 and made some fantastic catches

Agree with all of this. Decker was pathetic yesterday. I am terrified of what Mack is going to do to him. The oline as a whole was disappointing. Constantly putting us in bad down and distance situations. Holding. False start. Missed assignments. Missed blocks.

My issue is almost entirely with the coaching. I cannot understand changing up your game plan WHEN ITS WORKING. Offensively and defensively. The timeout fiasco. The blocked punt.
The wasted timeouts at the end of regulation. Patricia lost this game. End of story. The oline was a close 2nd.

I still don't the play call AFTER the stupid time out. You need 5 yards to put the game away and you chuck it for up grabs downfield. Guess they figured AZ would be keying on all those tight ends we signed/drafted. Way to outsmart yourselves.

I'm also well past the point of getting mad at this stuff. It got to 24-16 and I just to myself, "Yep, we know how this is going to end".

I was mad for about 10 minutes but then realized "wtf am I doing?". I won't let this kill me lol.

Decker's gotta go though
Hock is the real deal
Trey Flowers ....whaaaaa?
Patricia is the new Caldwell with the derrrrp face?? Lol
Stafford is going to get killed btw. Predict he doesn't make it the whole season.
McKissic could be something but they're not smart enough to use him more.
Take the kid gloves off Kerryon

Just a few things I noticed. We get trounced by LA this week too...

Unfortunately I never saw the “glory days” of the late 80s/early 90s. My fandom started around the time Millen was hired, so disappointment is status quo. I was probably most excited going into 2008, we all know what happened and I’m never falling for it again.

I love Fitz. I'd love to see him get a ring but that won't happen in Arizona. But I give him credit for staying with one team and he's no diva.

That's funny, the "glory days". One playoff win and Barry Sanders. I guess they were the glory days.

Murray said the Lions appeared to be wearing down over the course of the game.

“Late in the game, I think they were just tired,” Murray said, via MLive.com.

Murray noted that Lions defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison wasn’t in midseason shape and couldn’t keep up with the fast pace they were running, especially in a game that lasted an extra 10 minutes with overtime.

“I know Harrison wasn’t on the field a lot, probably due to him not playing a lot in the preseason. So the tempo can get to them, and I think that’s what helped us out later in the game as we actually started going,” Murray said.

Glory days is a stretch but you did put it in quotations lol. The 90's were a fun time to watch the Leos. For the most part anyways. Loads of talent and at least 1 team that should have went to the Super Bowl IMO.
Now it's just a clusterfuck and I almost believe there's a curse. How can it not be??? This team year in and year out finds new ways to lose football games or in yesterday's case, find a way not to win or lose lol. It's mindboggling. Pure domination until the 4th quarter, dumbass timeouts etc etc etc. It's never ending lol.

So let's see, those glory days included playoff performances where Barry was held to negative whatever yards in Green Bay. The next year riding a 7 game winning streak into the playoff only to be down 51-7 midway through the third quarter to a Philly team led by Rodney Peete....and Scott Mitchell, who also then threw for a whopping 78 yards a couple of years later in a playoff game at Tampa Bay.

From PFF:

Here are the highest graded #Lions on offense:
1. TE T.J. Hockenson- 83.0
T-2. G Joe Dahl- 70.4
T-2. WR Danny Amendola- 70.4
4. WR Marvin Jones Jr.- 67.2
5. G Graham Glasgow- 64.9

Here are the highest graded #Lions on defense:
1. S Tracy Walker- 81.2
2. DI A'Shawn Robinson- 79.5
3. CB Rashaan Melvin- 76.9
T-4. EDGE Devon Kennard- 72.7
T-4. DI Mike Daniels- 72.7

The best Lions' team, IMO, since the 1957 Champions was the 1970 (10-4) team, which lost to Dallas 5-0 -- the only playoff game where neither team scored a touchdown.

I'd like to see the worst grades. I bet our LT is on that list. He might just get Matt killed.

Lions fans should look on the bright side. I see some real growth with this team. In last year's opener they played one of the worst teams in the NFL and lost 48-17. Stafford threw 4 picks. This year they tied one of the worst teams in the league and Stafford didn't throw a single INT.

Things are looking up!

They play SD next week and they had a game almost identical to ours .. They were up 24-9 mid 3. Indy scored a TD and two point conversion with 38 seconds left to tie at 24. SD then got a TD in OT. So we might get a 2nd tie.

Stafford 100+ rating with proper wepons

yippie!

The Lions couldn't beat the team that had the worst record in the league last year. Az will probably be a 4-5 win team this year.

You probably aren't feeling too good about your 12-4 prediction. :lmao:

Best quote: "It's like a participation trophy," Arizona offensive lineman Justin Pugh said. "I want to throw it out."
