Game 14: Lions @ Saints *Monday Night* Thread

you misunderstand why many wanted the lions to lose. it had far less to do with draft position and far more that Caldwell MUST be fired. this isn't debatable, that coward needs to be fired.

with that being the case, it is much better if the lions can pick closer to 5 than to 20 so that the new coach is able to get the player he wants. Caldwell got Ebron...he deserved to be fired for that alone. you can still get A player the new coach wants at around 20, but you are less likely to get THE player the new coach wants. that carries throughout the draft. the new coach is able to build more of the team he wants on the field.

Can the Lions just like, forfeit, every game going forward, to get closer to that #5 pick?

But, what if like, every team that's in the Lion's situation starts to forfeit every game...can the Lions call to the league..."hey, wait...uh, we thought of it earlier....we started to for forfeit games to get us to that #5 selection...it just isn't fair...it isn't fair to like...steal our strategy..."

"We wanted like...THE player the new coach wants...THE unproven #5 pick out college, and shit...and them all stealing our thunder by copying us in forfeiting us games is going to cost us...now, our like...THE player...our new THE player...is gonna be like, player #20..."

Stafford Just did a nice Ray Lewis dance LOL

Someone get the GIF!!!!!

Man if we only had a decent coach.. I am positive a above average coach has us in the playoffs this year..

I only watched the first 1/2. Did Stafford throw the ball more than 5 yards past the line of scrimmage? I don't think he did in the first 1/2

I hate it, hate it with a passion, I hate how that ended, play for the field goal instead of having a put em away! mentality, it's dumb why even take the chance of letting them have another shot at it, when you control your own destiny for a win you don't leave a crack! You play to win the game Jim Caldwell...first and goal inside the 10, put it in the endzone! pathetic no killer instinct garbage..go suck ass jimmy Caldwell

I disagree.

You have RBs that have both fumbled, you have a kicker that hadn't missed all year. You make an easy field goal and you are up by 11. I would rather give the team the ball with 9 seconds left up 11, as opposed to up 15 and a minute + on the clock. Either way it should of been a two score game.

Just so happened he missed the field goal. But running the clock down to less then 10 seconds is a good call to me.

This is from the PFF Review thread:

? Efficiency was the name of the game for Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford (+2.5), who made very few mistakes as the Lions cruised to a big halftime lead. He didn?t attempt a single pass beyond 10 yards, but finished the game with a positive grade on plays where he was under pressure, and completed a whopping 88 percent of his passes.

Can't say I disagree with the strategy, majority of mistakes come when he is required to make plays.

I guess it's a question of trust really.

Did Caldwell/Cooter just not trust the RBs to hang on to the ball? Did they not trust the defense to not give up a huge play if the Saints got the ball back? Or do they just not have that killer "foot on the throat" mentality we really want them to have?

Did they just see no reason to rack up the score when they could end it?

I am not sure what they are thinking yet. It's easy for the fans to say "Oh they should have done differently" but in a season in which you went from a playoff team to having four wins on the verge of the fifth.... maybe it's not so easy from those sidelines to take the gamble.

Maybe it really is better to play to secure the win. I know I wasn't a fan of it, but in the end, it should have put three on the board and locked the W away. Prater missed a 38 yarder, shit happens. But the series of play calls was not going to lose us the game if Prater makes that kick.

Jumped to a tie for pick 7 thru 11....and probably out of a chance to get a decent LT. Yay for 5 wins.

Can't draft wins. There will be good players regardless of where we draft.

except we are the lions. We only pick good players when we select in the top 5. Slay and Levy are the only outliers I can think of on this team....and Riddick is quickly making a case to join that list if our dumb ass coaches would keep him on the field.

So would playing absolutely horrible defenses. We look good against really really bad ones.

Well this is true we do play good verses bad defenses but if we had a coach who recondized how bad Lombardi was we may have had a few more wins. Also Caldwell just is not a good game manager or tactician. . I truly believe a better coach has us in the playoffs or close this year.

There are good players sprinkled throughout the draft. Of course the lions never pick them. There may be 5 or so players that are in this draft that will become all pros. If you pick in the top 5, as long as you identify them, you can draft that player. Being able to pick ahead of other teams gives you the opportunity.

Of course it's the Lions...so they will fuck it up no matter where they draft!

The staff played to their strengths. Short passes. Can't complain about that.

Wins are nice and I don't even mind that we could pick outside 10, even at 20. Still worried that somehow White and Caldwell keep their jobs.

Still disappointed in 5-9.

Because running the ball are the only options, oh wait that's what they did, ran the ball for no gains and FG alignment. yeah don't do anything stupid like try some high risk pick 6 out pass but dang man do something, the best time would have been right after the long run by Bell, had em on the ropes for the kill right there then, next play should go right to the endzone and put it away! something..roll Stafford out and run. Check down pass to a FB or TE, go for the TD and wrap it up I say. This Franchise doesn't have anything to protect after decades of crap!
