Game 16: Lions @ Bears Thread

Again, you can't just assume everything happens in a vacuum. That's not how sports and life work. I could also argue that the Lions could have very easily lost at home to Chicago, a FG shank from a loss at GB.

This team is what they are. Couldn't win the important games, and won 6 of their 7 games against teams below .500. Right in the lower half of the NFL. And coming off an 11-5 season with the entire offense back and most of the defense, missing the playoffs is inexcusable.

Dude.. you can't really type that with a straight face can you?

Most of the Defense? We lost Suh, our defensive MVP. We lost Fairley. We lost Mosely. They guys we brought in the replace them were absent most of the year.

I feel your negativity, and it's well earned by this team... but get real man. We're a long way from "most" of the defense returning when we lost the ENTIRE strength of this team minus Ziggy.

BUT... the play never should have happened either. The game was over when the bad call on Taylor happened, giving them an untimed play.

So really, you can argue that either way I think.

No, I get it.

But......its not like it gave them a first down at the 5 yard line. 60 yards.

60

And not a Lion near Rodgers because we had two players defending the sidelines on an untimed play. UNTIMED PLAY!!!!! No Calvin out there. No Fuller or Ebron.

That call right there is the main reason I really don't care what happens to Caldwell. He is a solid coach.......but he's not irreplaceable by any means.

We also got 12 plays from Levy all year.

12!

Great... now we're going to get suspended from the board for a year and lose draft picks in next year's fantasy draft for starting BountyGate II.

Nice job Motown! Every time we hang out, you get me in trouble. Sheesh.

That's the last time I hire Asian Midgets in Lederhosen for private lap dances with you.... forget I said that guys. It never happened. Motown knows.
Asian geisha midgets. Much sexier than the midget clowns. But the draft picks lost would have been totally worth it.

Forgot about Levy. Yeah that sucks.

But Fairley didn't do jack shit on the team. And Ngata was supposed to replace a lot of the lost production from Suh (at least that's what I heard from a lot on this board). The offense could have basically been an unstoppable weapon. And they fell short again when it mattered.

They didn't lose enough to go from 11-7 to 7-9 (with an 0-5 start). A lot of that falls on coaching IMO.

Of course it was the coaching. Lombardi was abysmal and the offense turned around. This year went horrible in the beginning but they had chances to win. Screwed themselves and got screwed but this team could be back in the playoffs and should be.

And after starting 0-7 the lions did NOT end up finishing last in the div.

Absolutely, it does.

I will still argue that the BIGGEST coaching problem was taken care of when they fired Lombardi.

Caldwell is solid, but certainly not top tier.

Austin - tough call. He doesn't have say over personnel and he basically lost two of the best 20 defenders in the NFL in Levy and Suh. Tulloch, Ihedigbo, and Mathis regressed to the point they were basically useless.

Some of our young guys really progressed, though. Slay took a big step. Ansah became a MONSTER!! Whitehead was really good when he finally got the playing time. Abdul-Quaddus was solid. Lawson looked like a solid nickel guy.

Personally, I really like Austin. I really hope he stays.

Jim Bob Cooter - Well, Stafford seems to really like JBC. He was an elite QB the last 8 weeks. Elite. As in Brady, Rodgers good.

Does that mean he could do it for an entire year.......?????? But he (Cooter) certainly deserves the chance, IMO.

Bahaaaa....nobody told you that Ngata was making up from the lost production of Suh. Ngata is a runstuffer. Suh puts pressure on the QB and makes those splash plays. I thought Ngata was a good signing though....wish he would have been healthy most of the year too, we didn't get the dominating Ngata at all. Also, lost our #2 CB and Levy was hurt all year. DLine needs work too. So no, this defense wasn't the same from 2014. Not even close....

Correction if the raiders beat the Chiefs we'll then be at 14th pick otherwise we are at 15

I know you're referencing the Seattle game and the facemask against the Packers......but the Packers L was all on the coaching staff for that HORRENDOUS call on the last play.

There wasn't a Lion within arms reach of Rodgers when he caught the ball......on 60 yard Hail Mary. NOBODY near him!!!

But you're forgetting that if a Lion defender had even breathed on Rodgers, there woulda been ANOTHER untimed play. Because the Lions just don't sweep the season series vs. GB.

And the Lions just don't win a defensive battle in the hardest stadium in the league for road teams.

The Lions are going to have to earn the respect all on their own...it's never going to just be given to them. Basically play like you need to win a 61 minute game because obviously 60 just don't cut it where the Lions are concerned.

Completely disagree. When Fairley was healthy, dud ewas wrecking shop next to Suh. He was a big boy in the middle defenses were forced to account for, and he got a lot of pressure and made things happen.

But most importantly, he opened things up for Suh to be Suh.

Losing them both was a big big blow to this defense. Mosley was the next man up, and was a poor man's Fairley. He was another very good player for us.

Levy, well we all know how much we missed him this year. And even though Mathis was breaking down with age, losing him early didn't help a damned thing as it pushed players who weren't ready into a starting role.

Go get me a nasty DT and a fierce DE in this year's draft and I'll be a happy guy. Then in the mid-rounds, get me another DT.

Sure, Ngata was supposed to make up some of that production, but he didn't. Not even close. Ngata this season was 10% of Suh last season.

The offense gelled nicely under Cooter. I'd like an upgrade on the line at RT, and I'm fine with that being a young RT, Ola, or even Reiff moving over. But the D-Line needs dramatic help to make it all work for us.

Suh was awful this year....
