Game 41 Tigers vs indians May 15 2018 7:10 pm

vs Central Opponents

CLE 9-5 (14) .642 WPCT (4-2 vs DET)

MIN 5-3 (8) .625 WPCT

DET 9-10 (19) .474 WPCT

KCR 10-13 (23) .435 WPCT (6-4 vs DET)

CHW 6-9 (15) .400 WPCT (0-3 vs DET)

In an extremely weak division, MIN has only played 8 games versus DET's 19. Let's just wait until the schedules start to equal out. They are winning more than what we think. But there are other seasons where they were playing .500 before the break, but fell complete apart after.

2017 = .420 1st half - .370 2nd half (-50)
2016 = .563 1st half - .506 2nd half (-57)
2015 = .500 1st half - .411 2nd half (-89)
2014 = .582 1st half - .521 2nd half (-61)

2013 = .553 1st half - .603 2nd half (+50)
2012 = .512 1st half - .579 2nd half (+67)
2011 = .533 1st half - .657 2nd half (+124)

2010 = .558 1st half - .434 2nd half (-124)
2009 = .552 1st half - .500 2nd half (-52)
2008 = .500 1st half - .397 2nd half (-103)
2007 = .605 1st half - .474 2nd half (-131)
2006 = .670 1st half - .486 2nd half (-184)

2005 = .488 1st half - .382 2nd half (-106)
2004 = .483 1st half - .400 2nd half (-83)

2003 = .272 1st half - .257 2nd half (-15)
2002 = .365 1st half - .316 2nd half (-39)
2001 = .429 1st half - .385 2nd half (-44)

2000 = .452 1st half - .526 2nd half (+74)

DET doesn't have near the starting pitching they had from 2011-2013/2014. Prior to last year, you have to go back to 2005 before DET had a losing record in the 1st half. In the last 17 seasons, they have had only 3 seasons where they played better in the 2nd half. The records don't get better in the 1990s. In 1987, DET was .565 WPCT in 1st half, .649 WPCT in the 2nd half. That is probably the only season I remember where they absolutely performed way better in the 2nd half prior to 2011.

that seems like a lot of work to tell us what we already know...the Tigers aren't good ;)

Tigers' Pythag has them @ 19-22, and are on pace for ~73-89 for season.

They have no established ace, and really no one pitching like a #2 much less a #1 SP.

If Miggy is going to spend more than a quarter of the season on the DL, and Victor a black hole of suck @ DH...thats gonna be a drag on their offense. Not expecting either or both to happen.

The Tigers acquired Doyle Alexander for a low minors unheralded prospect in John Smoltz in mid-August of '87, who went 9-0 in 11 starts and who had an ERA nearly 2 runs lower than the rest of the roto @ 1.53. He never came close to that again in '88 and '89, having ERAs in the lower 4s.

Btw, I don't know what consist of a #1 or #2 but Boyd has had a nice season.. If that's not at least #2 based on numbers I don't know what is. Also, do you remember last season? We had 3 starters with ERA over 5, one was over 6.

Friers better than expected, Liriano better than expected. Zimmerman too. There's a lot to like about this team.

Yeah Boyd is a #2 in the Central, but not in the other 2 AL divisions. We will see how the rotation does once they start playing more contending teams.

They are 0-1 vs NYY, 2-4 vs CLE, and 2-1 vs SEA @ home, they will play @ SEA in their first WC trip after todays game. Not a good sample size vs contenders, or a record for that matter.

That's the dumbest thing I ever heard, lol. Btw, he's had more starts out of the central than in.

I agree that Friers & Liriano are better than expected and are doing exactly what we had hoped (4/5 starter numbers). Zimmerman has been bad as usual. Boyd is the pitcher that I am most interested in. Among the current starters, he is very important as far as the future of the Tigers are concerned.

Compared to last season Zimmerman is stud like. Plus imo Fulmer is still a top guy ..

compared to last year, yes, he has been better. He has still been poor this year. Only 1 quality start in 7 starts.

What I meant by Boyd is we already know what we have in Fulmer. He is probably a decent #2 or a very good #3 (on a contender) going forward. We need the same out of Boyd for the future of the Tigers.

Best thing about Zimmerman is he doesn't have a loss. Not all his doing of course but no runs his last two games. I'll take anything over his last season.

Quality start vs Seattle. I guess that doesn't count. 1 for 1.

Seattle wouldn't get a WC slot if the season ended today, how does 1 QS vs a team above .500 @ home make him a #2 in the AL?

All of the other AL divisions' teams have played more teams who were above .500 than the Tigers have. MIN has played SEA, NYY, HOU, TOR, PIT, and now StL.

Yeah because that tells you how good you'll be, based on the first 40 games. Minny got 4 game swept vs NY. Who cares if you just played a better team if you can't beat them. I guess they are better than us.. Lol.

You're the one who is claiming that Boyd is a #2 SP after 41 games in, not me. He wasn't before this season, and may well be this season, but that has not been proven yet. Tigers series vs NYY was cut short by bad weather.

But he's pitching well. But you didn't say it was because of only 41 games, you said it was because of the Central. Which is a little bizarre. The other point was you mentioned Minny playing NY. Who cares they lost..

"Team A is better because they lost to team D, team E, and team M." I find that funny.

I don't think anybody's getting confused here and thinking the Tigers are going to win the division and make a playoff run. It's just nice that maybe we actually have decent competitive baseball to watch. Will make the summer a lot more enjoyable being able to turn on a ball game without thinking it's an auto-loss, which is how I felt heading into the year.

Didn't we go like 5-25 last September?
