Game 7: Vikings @ Lions Thread

Laken and Swanson get a year. But Mayhew may be gone for the tackle situation and secondary woes.

Anyone remember the 78 sacks on David Carr as a rookie and 68 a couple years later? Talk about bad oline. I always wondered if he went elsewhere how good he could be?

Cowboys desperately need Romo back.. They might be completely out of it by the time he returns.

Had to leave beginning of the 2nd quarter to my sons last travel baseball game (yeah, October 25th). Just finished watching that travesty of a game.

I don't want to read 30+ pages of posts so if I say something redundant, sorry.

1. How THE FUCK DOES LOMBARDI still have a job?? It looked to me like we came out with a script of new plays that took Minnesota COMPLETELY off guard. Good job. After those 10 or 15 plays.......it was business as usual for a Joe Lombardi Offense. Easy to read play calling. guys running free from the snap......some of them completely unblocked. The line was so fucking confused we actually ran the ball on 3rd and 13 down 11 midway through the 4th.

2. The O-line is terrible. It's worse than that, actually, its pathetic. I don't think defensive coordinators even have to plan against our running game.....because we simply don't block well enough. Any team with even a decent DL is going to be able to get into the backfield with ease and shut down the running game.

3. I thought Stafford was really good today. Certainly good enough to move the ball. Calvin can still get open.....Riddick cannot be covered out of the backfield......and Ebron showed a flash today.

4. Mathis cant play man to man anymore. Slay has been bad lately. Ihedigbo is garbage. Where the fuck has Quin been? We don't tackle very well. We don't blitz, so we ask too much from our front four to play effectively for 4 quarters. They got to Bridgewater a few times......but we gave him 4+ seconds WAY TOO OFTEN. We still don't cover underneath very well.

All in all.......just a piss poor performance all around. Stafford, CJ, Riddick, Ebron and Tulloch with good games.......everyone else.....not so much.

Fire Caldwell. Fire Lombardi. Fire the OL coach.

Keep Austin. I still feel if the Lions gave him a solid back 7 he would have this D in the top 5 again.

You got to start with firing Mayhew. He created this mess and I don't trust him to do any better with hiring a new coaching staff.

Lions can't pick up a blitz. Zimmer disguises them well showing everyone blitzing on like every play, but still.

They knew which side we would play action to and brought the blitz from the opposite side every time. Just another sign that Lombardi's offense is predictable and vanilla. Zimmer pwned him.

Completely true. It begins with Mayhew, and he can't be trusted to hire a new coach.

Which is why it won't happen mid-season.

Where are you going to find a new GM and a new coaching staff in week 8?

I swear Hughes and I were the only one on this board beating the drum to fire Mayhew for the longest time. I think I started a post calling him Millen Jr. in like 2012. With his track record of drafting and retaining good players there was a slim chance of success over the course of his tenure.

Not sure what that has to it but whatever.. 0-4 without Romo now.

when I posted that the Cowboys tied the game...without their QB and #1 WR. They did end up losing but they have shown flashes of being a competitive team without their starting QB and #1 WR. The Lions have their Starting QB and #1 WR and suck ass!

But why do you need an absent GM halfway thru the year anyways? Hire someone now and allow him to do what most GMS do before the offseason.....analyze their current players and who he wants to be here so he can make changes in the offseason. An absent mayhew is worthless right now.
