Game 7: Vikings @ Lions Thread

I swear Hughes and I were the only one on this board beating the drum to fire Mayhew for the longest time. I think I started a post calling him Millen Jr. in like 2012. With his track record of drafting and retaining good players there was a slim chance of success over the course of his tenure.

Good GMS draft well and keep their own in house. Mayhew does neither. Its been evident for a long time now hes not the guy. Couple years of success can be done by anyone....literally anyone in this time of parity. Good GMs show they can build a model of consistency. Mayhews era has been the epidomy of lack of consistency. I love Schwartz...extend him...no fire him. Extend Stafford hes our guy....put Stafford in a cage we need to run the ball. Guy has no clue....team has no identity...just like caldwells face. Fuck you tony dungy.

I never wanted him hired. Hiring an underling of a moron always turns out bad.

when I posted that the Cowboys tied the game...without their QB and #1 WR. They did end up losing but they have shown flashes of being a competitive team without their starting QB and #1 WR. The Lions have their Starting QB and #1 WR and suck ass!

The dude threw like 3 INT in a row.. That's why I said they need Romo back. They can win without Dez. But Romo's important.

I don't even know how the GM hiring process would work mid-season. Who's typically hired? Former or current GMs, current underlings on other teams, promotions from within?

The last one is not an option (at least I hope it's not), the first one isn't an option until somebody is fired unless there's a former GM sitting out there waiting to get hired, I'm not sure on the middle option...are they allowed to interview mid-season?

I don't know...it just seems like the pool of candidates might be severely limited at this point in the year.

Since firing Matt Millen Sept. 25, 2008, the #Lions have played 116 regular-season games, going 41-75, and have been outscored by 425 points.

I don't think I've seen a mid season firing of a GM.

Here is how it should have went down.

Ford: Hey Millen were firing you for gross incompetence.

Millen: Can I make one suggestion? Hire my direct assistant.

A temp GM doesn't do anything for the team this year. That would be Xanders. The only thing it would allow more time to research potential new hires. But I don't know if you can even interview someone during the season from another team. Typically for coaches they have to be on a bye week in the playoffs to be interviewed. Don't know the GM rules.

Nobody knows how pro personnel director or assistant GM for another team will be. Or you go the former GM route that failed somewhere else.

But you said Mayhew is a great GM...right?

I think he got screwed with some things (injuries mainly). He may stay. Who knows.

We'll see how the Oline develops. Alot of it was scheme today though.

Hey may stay sure, that doesn't mean he's any good. Millen got a decade. What's another decade to a Lions fan.

Took my kids to "Boo at the Zoo" at Potter Park Zoo. Missed the game, deleted the DVR, and didn't watch a single highlight.

I feel fucking amazing.

Cutler is countering Minnesota ' pass rush right now with short quick passes, and it's working well, imagine that. A gameplan that counters a pass rush, and it's the first time they've played them this year.
