Game 8: Lions @ Raiders Thread

https://www.detroitlionspodcast.com...lions-podcast-oakland-raiders-post-game-show/
Detroit Lions Podcast Episode 239 ? Detroit Lions & Oakland Raiders Post Game Show. 67 minutes.

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by YouTube Slowlights hero, Andy ?Sandman? Morse for a tough show about the Detroit Lions loss to the Oakland Raiders. We also take your calls ? and a number of them about what has become of this Lions team. In a game that lived up to its ?shootout? billing, the Lions defense couldn?t get the stops they needed to outscore the Raiders.

Detroit Lions Podcast Laments Opportunities Lost.
On a day when the rest of the NFC lost, the Lions proved again that they can?t seize the opportunity. Much like the game against the Green Bay Packers, the Lions couldn?t seal a win that was within their grasp. A win that would have changed the calculus on the season. This is a problem that has plagued this franchise for years, and Chris finds it absolutely inexplicable.

The phone calls this week represent a disappointed fan base, and rightfully so. Chris reminds listeners that while the wins aren?t there, this team has been in every game until the very end this year ? except one. It is an improvement over last year, just not as much as we wanted from this team. Things are getting to a point where folks need those W?s to believe ? and Coach Patricia and Bob Quinn need to start delivering.

Cant get pressure, defend pass or stop the run. Pass offense only doesnt cut it. No help for Stafford once again

Extension for Christian Jones dumbest thing ever. Davis is garbage too. Need de and cb2..wash rinse repeat

Refs cost us chiefs and packers which completely chamged season outlook. What else is new though

nothing changes. Every year you think they are a 12+ win team :lmao: and every year they end up being around .500 or below.

Maybe some day you will learn...but I doubt it.

Talent is there. Lack of executuon plus some refs and injuries thrown in to

11 to 12 is the attainable goal every year until they prove they cant execute

Morningweg takes the wind in OT. Ross goes for two when down four. Schwartz's challenge flag. Caldwell's dismal clock management. Patricia has the scout team in on the most important play of the game.

Every Lions' coach needs to cement his incompetence in the annals.

Good teams execute. Lack of execution is an indication that a team is not good. :rush:

Lions waste another chance to gain ground on the League darling Green Bay. Can’t wait till the shitty Bears offense wakes up against Patrica’s defense. Maybe he will coach them up !

Packers 7-2
Vikings 6-3
Lions 3-4-1
Bears 3-5

You talk about how crappy are team is and then you say this:

You can't decide if we have talent or it's the coaching. News flash the team blows. Patricia can't coach and Quinn can't scout or draft and over pays for everything.

After calming down and rewatching the game all i have to say is that this coaching staff (primarily the defensive geniuses) and the gm deserve to bear the brunt of all the criticism. Bad trades, bad drafts, terrible schemes and no game plan to think of.

We know what works. We know what this defense needs to do to be less terrible. Ashawn and snacks next to each other in a 4-3 were dominant against the run last year. Hand was back and as an end was great against the run last year. Now we add flowers who would also be dominant against the run in that scheme. So we could eliminate the run and use the blitz to add pressure to the qbs but we refuse to adjust. They just keep trotting out the same broken defensive game plan no matter who we are playing. Whats the point. It's not like the extra db is doing a damn thing because even when the opponent passes they still are open because they can't cover for a minute straight. The lbs look like they don't even know what they're supposed to be doing. How many times this year are we going to watch davis stand close enough to the line of scrimmage to not cover a receiver and far enough back to give up a running lane to a qb. Slay said it best when he said they are putting the puzzle pieces in the wrong places. (I think that was the quote)

Sorry i know it's wrong but I'm frustrated watching this franchise be bad while they arent doing anything to improve it. Because it's not a technique player issue necessarily. It looks scheme oriented and if the coaches wont adjust the obvious things they're doing wrong then whats their purpose.

It is really frustrating that Patrica and Quinn have zero clue what they are doing. Another wasted 3 years and probably a new coach will be coming in. I doubt they get fired this year. All the defensive coaches should be let go. Maddening Patrica won?t adjust.

Bevell has been way better then Our last few OC?s but the offense is still struggling in the red zone. It goes though long droughts like yesterday second half in which the Lions only scored 3 points until the 2:26 passing Td. That is 27+ minutes of pretty bad offense against a real bad defense.

Don?t get me started on that play call on 4th and 1. Especially after the freaking Raiders called a timeout. That play call by Bevell and the staff was absolutely horrible. That package of players just is beyond dumb.

Going into the game I thought I heard were 11th in red zone percentage. Now we are 17th at 58%. New England is actually only 50%. We have a large discrepancy between home and away. Home we convert 73% of the time and away just 46%. I know we've had games where we've had multiple drops in the end zone so it should be a bit higher. I think not having a threat of a run game really hurts us once we get in the red zone. Defenses know Stafford is going to have to throw.

4.5 yesterday. That's good.

The Lions offense is above average. 12th in scoring, 5th in yards per game.

The defense blows. 27th in points allowed per game, 31st in yards per game. Patricia is a defensive genius? They committed significant financial resources to the Defense (two biggest signings Coleman and Flowers) & 4 of first 5 picks also devoted to the defense.

I cannot think of a worse play they could have called. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't #76, Oday Aboushi, just left roaming the flat while Clellin Ferrell had a nearly free run at Stafford??

No Golladay, no Jones, no McKissic. Just plain stupid. As good as he can be.....he outsmarts himself sometimes.

Patricia said that pasqualoni calls the defense and does the game plan. So my question is this...why? If that's true he's gonna cost this team more games and Patricia his job. Either go get someone else to coach the defense last i checked Rex Ryan is just talking about the game on tv and at least he's been successful or take the thing over and start to make some changes. For as good as the defense looked at times last year this defense is nowhere near what they were. They look like the first half of the season defense that did nothing well.
